Great lens, poor connectivity
This is a fine product. Extremely easy to use, good battery life. Images are good quality, but not at extremely close ranges. The red eye reduction, flash and lens are all excellent quality, and as good as you'd find on a $300 camera today. I also liked the way the memory card and battery doors are separate, meaning you do not have to mess with the batteries everytime you need to take out the card.
There are two annoying aspects of this camera which would almost certainly dissuade a beginner. First, you cannot plug the camera directly into a computer or photo printer. The second, and what makes the first all the more significant is that is uses compact flash memory, which was the standard in 2003, is not the standard today, and most computers do not include a card reader that reads compact flash. So if you have a newer computer, especially a laptop, you will need a usb, compact flash reader. You might also need to get a new card, as in 2003 most people had 32 or 64mb cards, which would only hold 10 - 20 photos at max resolution.
Lastly a word on megapixels. As a shutterbug for a few decades now I can tell you that whether you have 3.2 or 12 megapixels really will not affect your image quality unless you want to blow up your picture to poster size or some other unusual application. Pentax Optio 330GS Camera
Excellent camera for a beginner, and also advanced users. Changing the resolution is a big plus for me. Small size adds to comfort, going through parameters of the camera is very easy. I have old restored cars, and trucks, I set the resolution low to email pictures faster. Can't go wrong buying one of these.Read full review...
Great Camera
We bought this camera on a cruise and really loved the ease of starting in the digital camera world. It takes great pics and is simple to use. Have had no problems with it in the last 3 plus years.
