A wicked fun game, period!

WOW! I have could play this game forever! My Dad and me actually play this! I wont tell you his age because then next year it'll change and so on but we both have a lot of fun playing this game. And we only play one mode. Extreme league challenge. This was a great feature added to the triple play series. The object of the mode is to hit hommers and hit targets. The hitting controls are pretty much the same from Triple play 2000. A and up is to use your powerful swing, S and up is to hit normally, and D is to bunt. My Dad actually whoops me all most every time. I have to aim for the Bird ALL the time when we play on the living room stadium, because the bird is worth the most points. Though if you miss and it's a foul ball and doesn't hit anything then it counts for an out. The game is a blast and should be played by any baseball fan. Now let's break it down...
Game play- 7.5
I guess the game play is alright but there are a lot of better baseball games out there with better game play. I don’t know really what to say. I usually only play the "extreme challenge" mode. Though I have tried the season mode and unlocked everything on the game. There are actually some pretty nice things you can unlock. There pretty much cheats, so lets call them cheats. You can unblock flaming ball, flaming bat, REALLY fast players, etc. All things that will help you win. They come in use and can be very fun to use.

Graphics- 7
What can I say about the graphics? There good for the year 2001. You can see a lot of detail in each stadium and the players also have a lot of detail given to them. The graphics are good and EA really put effort into that game in 2001.

Controls- 9
The controls are very easy to establish. A is to power hit, S for a normal hit, and D to bunt. I forgot what steal was but I think it was W and the arrow key of the base you were trying to steal. The game is pretty basic; you shouldn't have any trouble figuring out how to play.

Overall- 8
Like I said I have TONS of fun playing this game. I'm pretty sure you could go down to your local Gamestop and they might have this game. Though they might now sense it is 5 years old. Though you could also go on ebay and I'm sure you could probley pick this game up for a few bucks used, a little more new. So if you’re a baseball fan then I really suggest you get this game for your computer. I'm not really sure about the specs but I figure that Windows 98 and above are going to work fine. Windows 95 probley not, maybe. I haven’t tried. Though if you get this game make sure you can play it you don’t want to buy a game that you cant play. Though you could always return it depending on where you got it. Now that I'm done telling you about the game get out and play it baseball fans!

Great Fun 10+ Years Later

This game may be over 10 years old but I still have fun with it. Beyong standard exibition games, it has lots of extras like legendary players, powerups, and unlockable fields like, a moon stadium, a castle stadium and even a huge living room stadium.

It has a couple of real life announcers that commentate during the game: Jim Hughson and "Buck" Martinez. They provide some comic relief as well as stats from the 2000 season.

There are also some really fun game modes. In Extreme Big League Challenge mode, you try to hit as many home-runs as you can, while aiming for targets to earn bonus poin (targets, depending on the stadium, can range from billboards, to windows, to tv sets).

It's very realistic as far as rules and player movements. But the graphics, as you can imagine, are not like PS3, XBOX 360, or even Wii for that matter. It can still be rendered in 600x800x16 HD resolution though. The 16 means a low depth of color, so it's pretty simple. I personally like 16-bit color because it is more bright and colorful that today's 32-bit baseball video games.

Compatability:
Even though it was designed for windows 98, it still works on my Windows 7 laptop. You just need to change the color display to 16-bit.

It's a great game I remember playing as a little kid. It still provides great fun 10 years later. I'll keep it as long as I can!

Triple Play 2001...Greatest Baseball PC Game

To get the full enjoyment of the game it is imperative that you download some added files such as El Salsero's Roster Editor, an EA Graphics Editor and other programs for EA Sports Games which let you customize uniforms, rosters, music and stadiums.

I like to create my own players, many are missing such as Roberto Clemente, Suzuki Ichiro, Wade Boggs, Nolan Ryan, and others. The game's legends are detailed and perfectly written. Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Ted Williams, are some of the best representations of the real players. The game also has some quirky perks that are rewards you win for all kinds of things like back to back homers, or ground rule doubles. Some of the rewards include a Space Stadium, Powerup Offense and Defense, Big Bat, Tiny Head, and many more.

The ability to customize teams, players, and other aspects of the game are the best thing about it. You can create Dream Teams, and pit the greatest hitters versus the greatest pitchers cross generations. What I love most is that defense is relatively simple unlike many Baseball video games. Hitting a homerun provides a thunder clap, and color commentary is subtle and funny.

Triple play 2001 - PC and PSOne

Triple Play 2001 for PC does not work in XP machines (some claim they can make it work but I have not been able) Installed on Win98 OS machine and graphics lack, Tripple Play 97 was much better.

Triple Play 2001 for PSOne looks more like a nintendo (original) game than what you would have expected from a Playstation 1.

In my opinion I was very dissapointed with the overall game, the homerun derby is not like the traditional home run derby's, this one is played more like a game where you get 3 outs per inning and then you can play several innings.
