TomTom XL 335T Review

I wanted a GPS with the following components: 1.) brand name; 2.) lifetime traffic updates 3.) 4.3" screen 4.) lane guidance. The TomTom XL 335T has all that and some. It has spoken street names when using the standard computer voice (you cannot use celebrity voices to speak street names like if you were to use Ozzie or Darth Vader). This GPS does not have bluetooth capabilities, but who needs the feature if you have one already. Besides, you can get a decent one for $20 - $50 and I don't think the clarity on the GPS would be as crisp as a bluetooth headset. I found that the XL 335T transmits and re-routes rather quickly. When calculating a route, it prompts you to include or avoid carpool lane and bridge tolls (very handy). I also like how in the event the GPS picks up a traffic signal, you have the option to take an alternate route to avoid a delay (I've used this in the greater Los Angeles area and saved me 20 mins to get home during rush hour mind you). The GPS has a whole myriad of features such as day and night screen, which allows for less harm on your eyes, change your vehicle icon to sports car, SUV, etc. All in all, it's easy to use.....I love it! I don't understand why people would spend hundreds more on a Garmin or Magellan. My mother-in-law has a TomTom Go 740 I believe and don't get me wrong, it's a much sophisticated appearing and noticeably heavier GPS, but it comes with a price. Her GPS has a bluetooth feature and more options on features than my XL 335T has, but I don't need to spend an extra $140 on a GPS that should serve the same purpose of allowing me to lessen my commute times and get me to my destinations. Heck, if were given a TomTom GO 740 for free, I'd sell my XL 335T. Try it for yourself!Read full review...

Good design, easy to use, more features and Satellite signal

I bought this GPS receiver because the one I had was stolen, I like the design and the map accuracy of TomTom, this new one have more features and they are cheaper now, mainly because nowdays most mobile (cell) phones have navigation system, but most of my trips are to, or go through places with low or no cel signal, and the satellite signal coverage is way better, so there you go.Read full review...

A great low cost easy to use Auto GPS with many features.

This is my first car GPS, my phone has a GPS. It was easy to use and set up and I got the free 30 day guaranteed map update which did not take as long as some reviews claimed to download. Also I got an error halfway through the download and the download stopped, but when I started the download again it took up where it left off, where the error occurred and I did not have to re-download the first part. Overall I am pleased with this unit except for the fact that when you get about 250 feet from you destination the built in voice announces "You have arrived at your destination." I also like the fact that the unit shows you your speed and the speed limit where you are driving side by side this will help avoid speeding tickets. A great unit for the price I paid.Read full review...

A GREAT unit for the money! :-)

I bought this GPS unit to go in my new car. It's packed with features, and trust me.......it WORKS! My wife and I just went on a long road trip from California to Mississippi, and this unit performed FLAWLESSLY! I've used other GPS units that were hard to use, stubborn at times, and hard to see. This unit is just the opposite. The screen is clear as a bell. And the road updates are accurate. A great buy for the money in my humble opinion. :-)Read full review...

not dood for my area

love the big screen amd easy touch buttons. but tomtoms are not designed to be able to input letters into house address. where i live are address starts with a letter. (example... w364 s5634 main st) without the letter input this device is useless to me. even the next upgraded version has same issue. i called tomtom and they told me they are working on problem but had no time frame in mind.Read full review...

very nice unit worth what i paid for sure

Good device, a few minor kinks like telling me to turn left when i'm on the same road and it has a big curve. Didnt come with a manual, but its pretty intuitive. Loaded with features. I like the speed limit & lane features alot.
Havent seen one yet that was perfect. Worst feature: Terrible windshield mount, simply doesnt stay in holder or on windshield for long.

Great value with the larger face. It make sit easy to read and much easier to use. Get a Garmin

Picked up several used Garmin's at yard sales for a few dollars and both perform better than this Tom Tom.
