Love this game!!!!

Im a Sonic gamer and this is one if my top 5 Sonic games! Its storybook based game and is one of the only Sonic games I know with a sequel (Sonic and the black knight, which also is storybook based). It also has a party mode where you can multiplayer! (since you cant on the storymode). You also unlock music from the game, cutscenes, and even a little taste of some Sonic history, but im not going to spoil it for you.... The colors are very intriguing, dark but colorful! Its a choice for children and adults alike! It's also the only Sonic game on Nintendo wii (besides Sonic and Mario at the Olympic games) that I know is rated E for everyone! I totally recommend this game, and I hope you enjoy this game just as much as I did!Read full review...

Waste of money

I bought this for my grandson. We he opened the present he was so excited. Several days later I asked if he like it and he said “it is not fun at all.” So I decided to try it and noticed it never gets past the introduction story. I have tried everything and it seems as if it is advancing to where you actually play the game but it just loops around and plays the introduction again. I am assuming the disc is bad. Waste of money!Read full review...

A Great New Look For the Old Blue Hedgehog

Sonic fans rejoice because the blue hedgehog is back in true fashion. Many Sonic fans have been disappointed (and rightfully so) with recent Sonic games that have gone awry. Secret Rings returns to the tried and true Sonic formula. In this game, the worlds are 3D, but Sonic runs along a set path, deviating only slightly to the left or right as he runs forward. For most of the levels, Sonic will be blasting forward at his normal "blue blur" speed. Your job is to make him dash left or right to pick up rings or avoid the bad guys. As usual, Sonic can also jump to clear obstacles or stomp on the bad guys. The controls for the Wii work well and are fun. You hold the wii-mote sideways and tilt forward to run, back to slow down, and side to side to move left or right. The buttons allow you to jump, or move backwards. Visually, the game is spectacular. Each world is enormous, colorful, and crisp. The sound is good, but can become redundant over time. The story line is a little and voice overs leave a lot to be desired, but don't affect the gameplay at all. In general this is a fun game making great use of the Wii controls. This is a good overall choice for most Wii owners and a great choice for anyone looking to revisit the Sonic legend.Read full review...

HIT for Six year old! ***Note to non-gaming parents...

My six year old got this for his birthday a couple of months ago. And, although I need to help him with some of the reading he seems to be enjoying the game. There is obviously a lot more to it--with equipping the different rings--learning some of the more difficult maneuvers, etc. but he's moving right through the game and likes it on the 'six-year-old' level for now. I think as he gets better at reading--or if this game is played by an older child (or adult! :-)--it would have more depth--but for now, it's a hit!

BTW... he also got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the Wii, and he does not like that game at all, so even with alternative titles to play, he prefers Sonic!

FOR PARENTS... if you're not a gamer--just a parent looking for a game for the kids--my son has been gaming since he was about three. So, he's an 'experienced' gamer. If the kids are new to gaming, this might be a bit harder to play. I would suggest renting it first to see if it's something the kids like before investing the $$ to buy it.

SONIC RULES + mini games

First off me and my son are sonic junkies. i bought a wii this year(2011) and had to get all the sonic games of course. The one thing all the platformers for this console have in common is that all the controls are different from the next one. in this one you hold the controller sideways and tilt it back and forth or side to side to control sonic. It starts off a bit slow but as you level up(yes there is a rpg aspect to it.) you can start to go faster. the game engine is very similar to sonic and the black knight. and also similar to that game it is on rails, the landscape is beautiful as always with games from sonic team but you cant explore a lot of it. once you complete a classic style sonic level(just getting to the goal) you can go back to beat specific challenges within the level. As for the mini game portion we haven't played too much of it but it isn't ground breaking and seemed like a new adaptation of sonic shuffle (for the dreamcast) but instead of being on a game board with mini games there is several different styles like the winner of each mini game gets to open treasure boxes avoiding the booby trapped ones and when all the boxes are opened the person with the most treasure wins. all in all if you looking for a sonic game in the classic sense this is not the game for you. Sonic colors or the day levels from sonic unleashed are more of the sonic you know and love. but if your looking for a bargain title with a familiar face or a new title to fill the time before project cafe is done in 2012 then you should get this game. if you like this game you should also get sonic and the black knight.Read full review...

The blue blur isn't a blur no more!

With Sonic the Hedgehog out for 360 and PS3, you'd think the Nintendo Wii would have it also, thing is, this isn't the same game. The whole game is motion sensored and the graphics are so beautiful. The story sets in the book of the Arabian Nights, but an evil genie wants to destroy the book so he can go into the real world and destroy it. But Sonic is transported into the book to stop him. The story could be better and the controls are hard to manuever at first. If you remember that this is a Sonic game and get used to the controls, you will definitely enjoy this game. And if you get bored with the game, bring a friend and have fun in the party mode (which is like a copy of the mini games in Mario Party 8).Read full review...

Not bad

Not too bad but it isnt great. I have to agree with ign's rating of the game. It can be fun, but sometimes the controls make you wanna scream. The storyline is TERRIBLE, but occasionly speckled with lovable sonic humor. Oh, and voice acting isnt perfect either-little childish like. And its really really easy. Almost instant checkpoints and no lives. You cant pick up your rings anymore, and you only lose 20 at a time. Some of the "bonus" levels are annoying, and you just wanna get on with the game. This may sound negative, but its got a lot of fun stuff too.Read full review...

Starts slow... then gets REALLY AWESOME

Starting with the bad things: the story is weird and sometimes even ackward, the pace is very slow in the beggining of the game (I've seen many people quit the game before getting to Chapter 2 -- when things start to heat up).

But what this games does right, it does damn right. After you get some ring powers, you start to run REALLY fast and the game becomes really wild. You will die, a lot, because no human being possesses the kind of quick reflexes that would be required not to die the first time you pass through certain points, but every time you pass a level, you will feel like you're the best player in the world. It's a very rewarding game.

Also, there's a whole bunch of optional missions to do if you want to complete the whole game and unlock all of the extra stuff (art renders, cinematics, sound test, this kind of stuff). And there's also a party mode full of MarioParty-style minigames that are... absolutely not fun. You will quickly forget this mode even exists.

In a nutshell: wild action, extreme speeds, cool graphics, Sonic the way it should be. Buy this game.

Sonic is a hard transition to Wii

While Sonic is a classis, the new dimensional movements to control Sonic are cutting edge; they are also a bit complex.

Like previous Sonic games, the movement of Sonic sometimes goes to "auto-Sonic". He hyperdrives to a dizzying speed, all while limiting user input. To make him do simple left and rights, precision is required. Also figuring some of the more complex offensive moves are more than exasperating.

If your are under the age of 10, you will probably be able to master this game instantly. However, if you grew up playing the original Sega version (or you've got it on your computer at work), prepare to be befuddled and a little disappointed.

Even so, it has several party modes for multi-player board games. The movements for these are typically a single movement, decreasing the stress of playing in Sonic's dynamic, 3-Dimensional world.

Sega, stop trying, seriously.

Before I start badmouthing this game, a little (and I mean very little) praise. The graphics in this game are very good and the environments are well designed. And sonic is fast again. NOW onto the badmouthing. I got this game in a bundle when I got my wii and if I could go back... I wouldnt have spent the extra $50. The game has the stupidest plot I ever heard of (ooohhh Im a genie and I am going to erase a book *gasp*), the cut scenes are crap ( if you read comic books you will be very familiar with the layout), difficulty spikes at random intervals (goes from "dont need to look at the screen" easy, to "scream your guts out at the screen" hard in about 10 seconds), it is not that engaging (you ask yourself "do I want to keep playing?" after almost every chapter), and though the worlds are beautiful there are only 7 of them, the rest of the game is built up by bits and pieces of them and will become all to familiar all to soon. I personally have had a moment in the game where it is almost impossible and I have vowed to myself to try to never pick it up and play it again... EVER... Further badmouth. THe soundtrack sucks with no exceptions. If you like crappy metal then you may vaguely like it. And the multiplayer. Ive had more fun watching paint dry and seen better graphics on the NES. Well, not really the NES but the graphics are horrible and look slapped on at the last minute. Sega should stop making 3d sonics and return it to what made the Sonic franchise great in the first place... Running really, really really fast. But if you are one who needs a 3d sonic (I pity you) this is probably where to go.Read full review...
