Samsung Moment - Great phone

I have had my phone for several days and I am really liking it so far. It is very easy to use, the screen is beautiful, and the phone has a tremendous amount of functionality built in as well as available through the Android Market.

My dislikes of the phone are relatively minor -
1. The battery life is not great. I need to do some research on what others are doing to increase battery life. I also think the next version release of the operating system is going to address power usage.
2. I wish the phone would notify you of a missed text/call when it is dormant. My old phone, if you missed the audible incoming call/text notification, it would have one of the buttons glow (while the screen was blank/off) to let you know you missed something.
3. The screen is beautiful but tends to get washed out in bright light.
4. There is a bit of lag when typing - more so when using the virtual keyboard

So far, I have zero regrets in buying it and would buy another. When my wife breaks her current Palm Pre, I'm going to steer her towards the Moment.

Great after the Update

This phone was so-so with Android OS 1.5, but after the update in April, things got a lot better...
It was more responsive, the bug with "Roaming mode" was fixed, it added Google Navigation, Google Voice Search, and the zoom option for the Camera. it has a very responsive AMOLED touchscreen, which was easier to see at different angles. Bluetooth connectivity also was more stable after the 2.1 update.
Lost one star because the battery life on it is not the greatest, but it is a solid phone both physically and systemwise.
You can navigate 3 different ways, via touchscreen, optical track-pad, or using the keyboard arrows.
Connects to WiFi perfectly, and comes Built-In with Moxier which is a MS Exchange connecting utility, which makes this great for dual-purpose personal/work device.
As far as Spring goes, it has the fastest Processor second only to the EVO, and possibly the Nexus One if Sprint gets that.

Samsung Moment a.k.a. "The Brick"

Well I am coming from an HTC Hero. I liked the Hero very much, but a couple things prompted me to get another phone. One of those being the use of a physical keyboard. Now the virtual KB may be usable for others, maybe one with the fingers of a 9yr old girl. That being said, the use of it was more often then not, frustrating. My other qualm was the speed or there lack of. The Hero seemed less like its' name and more like a normal person in comparison, if that's possible? Going between apps., dialing even down to setting the alarm were sometimes patience yielding experience. Though I could be biased as I am a very impatient individual. Other then those minor details the phone is awesome!

So I recently purchased The Samsung Moment in hopes of aliveating my dissapointments of previous phone. After recieving the Moment, I had a "Moment" of relief when sliding open that full QWERTY PHYSICAL keyboard. All its glory can only be felt by one. On top of this intitial joy, I came to realise that I could navigate and run apps, such as the dialer, with ease. Very responsive. Being a Google based phone navigation was familiar, being that I came from a Google phone. Though a few things are not offered as such on the HTC Hero, such as being able to choose different styles for widgets and having the five different home pages to scroll between. Moment has only three home pages to scroll between. And the Moment is fairly bulky when compared to the Hero. It lascks any sort of "glitz" and "glamour". But lets be honest, who buys a phone as a fashion accesory? That being said I think most phones when pitted against the almighty iPhone are going to come in at a less then average rating. Of course my opinion is subjective.

With all that being said. I find the Samsung Moment to be a good phone with nice features.

ROCKS at the things it does well, but has a few annoying tendencies.

I like this phone... seriously!! My old Blackberry was a replacement for the one I had before it; both of them got old and developed problems, so I bought this one as an interim phone until I can qualify for a new "cheaper" phone on my account.

There are just a few negatives that I would like to point out. 1/ It's heavier than my old Blackberry. 2/ The touchscreen interface is slow to respond when mid-call; you have to wait for the screen to light up, then drag the dialpad up [taking care not to blank the phone again], then proceed from there - I usually have to put it on "speaker" to avoid blanking the screen over and over. 3/ Even though the screen dims during use, it's still possible to face-dial different buttons including "mute" and "speaker". 4/ The touchscreen is annoying when using Facebook; it either won't respond, or responds too well. 5/ There is no speed dial, only a "favorites" list.

Overall I do adore this phone. It has all the features I want, gets good signal, and has clear sound. I haven't been able to get the TV to work yet [probably need to upgrade the software since I bought it used] but everything else is great.

For touchscreen and weight I prefer the Palm Pixi [it's MUCH lighter!]. For non-touchscreen functions I prefer the Blackberry. For everything in one package, this does a great job!

Samsung Moment???

the phone was in excellent outstanding condition when i got it. and i was so excited. i bought this phone because i wanted a new one and i used to have this phone and i missed it so after i got rid of the htc hero i was back to a fast moving touch screen phone. The thing that i like about the phone is that its touch screen and has a qwerty keyboard where i can type faster. What i dont like about it is that it dont have t9 words for the touch screen part and that some of the features are plain looking and not fancy looking untill i put themes on it and that its not a 3g or 4g network phone. if there's a possible chance i would recommend that others should get it but if i was to get another phone i would try a diiferent one that just came out. because this phone is off the market so sprint can't really do much with it unless its customer service problems.Read full review...

All around amazing phone

Pros: Gorgeous screen-lightning processor-slide out keyboard+lights-capacitive touch screen is VERY responsive-android-no lag-YES HERO NO LAG-battery is great if you run task manager-LOUD speaker and speaker phone-comes with nice ear buds-much more......

Cons: Not much to say here but this phone really got a bum rap on some of the reviews- TANK

Summary: I had the hero right before this phone for three weeks and i have to tell you besides the UI, this phone has that one beat in just about every thing and especially performance. I really got tired of making mistakes on that keyboard and the lag irritated me. I actually like the virtual keyboard better on this than the hero. But the physical keyboard is a night and day difference.
I also had the iphone 3gs and several others and to compare but this phone just won me over. Now the UI is very basic but I am the type that likes to build and design my own UI and not what someone else already stuck in there. When 2.0 comes out and this gets it, that will be something really look forward to. I can't believe some of the reviews i read from some of the review sights???? It almost made me not get this phone. I am glad that I had to see for myself with all the great specs this phone has I couldn't just not try it. But I am glad I did and I think you will too if you have some tech smarts in you.

nice phone after upgrading to android2.1

First off i am upgrading from windows mobile 6 to my first android device. i also have an iPod touch 2g. i will use those to compare to this phone.
This is a much more fun phone as compared to the Treo which is more business oriented(more to come on that).
Likes
Super Amoled screen is awesome. beats iPod touch
Large Physical keyboard
Virtual android keyboard has error correction which makes me type very very fast and beats iPod
integrates all my contacts, work, gmail, Facebook, etc
better network reception after upgrade
Threaded messaging
integrates with YouTube so i can upload directly
awesome photos with Geo tagging(use of gps to show where photo was taken)

dislikes
*when you make a call you need to wait a few seconds before putting it to your ear because if you do the proximity sensor will not work and you will face dial
*while texting and a call comes in screen wont show who is calling for a few seconds.
*location of proximity sensor to screen
*need to touch icon longer than the iPod for it to register. not a major problem though.

The pros outweigh the cons since the cons are mostly software bugs.
The windows mobile has a better calendar by far. better categorization and viewing.
I still like the way contacts are arranged in windows tho like i said this phone is more fun with integration with FB.

Awesome phone and great value for the $!

My husband originally had a Rumor Touch and the touchpad wouldn't work after only 6 months of use. Instead of buying a new phone through Sprint for $300 to $400, I found a great buy on this slightly used Samsung Moment M900. My husband loves it! He feels slightly spoiled that he has a phone more high tech than my Blackberry.
The touchpad, camera and ease of Apps use is great. It is hard to see the screen in the bright sun though. I will be buying him a screen protector, maybe that will help. It's taking some time to figure out all the features and how to use them, but overall it's a successful purchase.
While I find my Blackberry easier to use, the Samsung Moment has many features my phone doesn't. It makes me want to upgrade soon!

I love this phone

This is my first smartphone. I love it. It is easy to learn all the menus and everything. There are many apps available for download. The battery drains quick, but you can exspect that with any smartphone. The only thing I wish I could change is the notification alert. I use ringtones for notifications like new emails, new text messages, new voicemail, ect. But that notification ringtone also sounds to other stuff like, when you plug in the charger; it's sort of weird to have the phone play a ringtone when the charger is plugged/unplugged. Besides that I think it's a pretty good phone. I never have any issues with it freezing, lagging, or crashing. Some of the other reviews complain of it but I never have those problems.Read full review...

User Friendly Phone

I saw a commercial for this phone and was very interested. I've had a blackberry for 6 months but couldn't wait to try this new phone. I can only compare this to the blackberry as I've had no other experience. With 6 hours on hands time this is what I think. I'm always hesitant about moving parts but the slide out keyboard is not just a great feature but it feels solid. This is one of the heaviest and most solid feeling phones I've seen. I love the option of the touchscreen keypad or the slide out. The screen is good sized and vibrant. The web browser is great. The load time for web pages and videos don't seem sluggish to me at all. The quality of sending and receiving voice calls is much better than the blackberry. Navigating through this phone is very user friendly. Ths snap shot camera is very slow. I haven't used the video record feature yet but the snap shot camera is extremely slow. Trying to get a quick picture of a baby is nearly impossible. Overall I give this phone a big thumbs up. 4 out of 5 stars. Not for any disappointment but because there's always room for improvement. The OS software upgrade is a great example of that.Read full review...
