Well thought out phone with tons of apps not windows friendly

I love this phone but I'm not sure it will work for my application. I have had it for about 1 1/2 months.
Bad points...
1. It has crashed once on a trip leaving me with a wiped clean phone.
2. You must buy third party software if your company uses outlook calendar or windows based e-mail.
3. The keyboard on the phone is crowded and feels terrible. If you have large fingers the upper row of keys is hard to operate.
4. Not sure if a bad point but the phone is constantly updating in the background and if you're on a limited data plan you find you GB used up very quickly
The good points...
1. Tons of applications to choose from.
2. Great GPS features and integration with google maps and your contacts.
3. Easy to maneuver screens and widgets
4. Car mount integration and operation is fantastic.
5. Intuitive operation of menus and controls
6. Great touch screen and accelerometer.
I really want to use this phone I can certainly see it's potential but haven't fully been able to integrate it to my business. I think for the average non-business user this phone is incredible. Frustrated but hoping I can make this phone work for me. If you love social networking this phone appears to be great. I took all those apps off the phone as I don't use them.

Good smartphone with a physical keyboard.

The key features of the Motorola Driod 2 smartphone are:
-Physical keyboard
- Up to 40 GIGs of memory

Other features include:
-A large touch screen
-3.5 MM headphone jack
-GPS navigation with full turn-by-turn directions
- 5-megapixel camera with flash
-Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mobile hotspot
-Talk time is 9.6 hours max and standby time is 315 hours

The cons are:
-No front-facing camera
-A little bulky
-Short battery life

Overall, this smartphone is great because it offers a physical keyboard with the smartphone. For those that need the keyboard, this device might be what you’re looking for.

Great phone, but the minor issues take away from it so it gets a solid 4/5.

This really is a very good phone, keeping in mind it's about 2 years old now i think when it was introduced it would have been top of the line and on par with high end phones.
The camera isn't great but it isn't bad either it would have been great if it had a front facing camera though, low light situations aren't a big problem here as it has a dual LED flash and really makes it work.
Ir is QUICK even by todays standards, all tasks i use it for are completed and without lag. You can watch a movie on it listen to music while reading the news on the web it doesn't bother this device one bit, i had more expensive Blackberries that would stick and have buffer issues while doing those things.
Only issue i face is using USSD codes via my prepaid wireless carrier. This phone will not recieve a reply from the carrier when running USSD codes, so things like checking balance, transfering credit, using interactive carrier codes won't work while using this phone. That's my only problem with it.

Good Android phone would recommend if you don't mind the screen size.

Likes:
1)Clear and bright screen.
2)Back-lit keyboard a big improvement over 1st generation.
3)Functions and features, and well designed.
4)Good reception for phone usage.
5)User replaceable battery.
6)Runs Android Gingerbread.

Dislikes:
1)Tradeoff in portability vs screen size.
2)Had to open back cover to swap microSD memory card.

It is a good phone, just know what yours is capable of handling.

I have not personally used this particular phone, but I have friends and family that do own one. What I found was that the processor for this phone was only meant to handle up to 8GB of external memory. This means that your phone will freeze up if you try to use a 16GB MicroSD card as opposed to an 8GB. My brother owns one and switched to a Blackberry because his Droid 2 Global kept freezing up. Recently he switched back to his Droid because he wanted to surf the web via tethering his phone and the Blackberry would not be fast enough. I suggested to my brother that he reduce his data storage to less than 8GB because his phone was doing exactly what everyone else here says theirs does: freezes, doesn't let them use certain features of the device, etc. The problem is not with the phone, it is with the storage card you are using. My brother has since done so and has not had a single problem.Read full review...

Good product, better than any basic phone.

I bought this product as an alternative to the previous basic phone I owned. There is a tremendous difference between this phone and any basic phone. The touch screen works great, it's fairly easy to use. Only Negative it had dificulty downloading files from my email.Read full review...

Expect frustration if you get one anyway because I told you so!

Where do I start?

My Verizon account has THREE Droid 2 Globals on three of my five lines and were purchased June 2011.

So, we've had them for four months now.

Mine has already been replaced by a refurbished one (within the first two months) because:

- After 1 month, it was freezing
- The touch keyboard was possessed, typing randomly and preventing me from having control of the phone
- I select to text my husband and my daughter comes up. Stuff like that.
- Randomly shuts down, won't ring or deliver texts. Again, randomly.

Not to mention battery life is mediocre at best. Even with an initial full charge.

Maybe it's just the one phone, right? NOPE.

My daughter's and son's Global 2 both suffer from the same symptoms mine had, drawing the conclusion that a replacement only:

- solved NOTHING. The refurbished Global currently has the same issues. (That makes now...FOUR Global 2s)

- the HASSLE of replacement wasn't worth it. (you have 5 days to get your NEW phone back in the mail to Verizon), then, you have to re-personalize the USED one to your likings

So, after several calls and one Verizon rep saying "Maybe I use my phone too much" (???)...I got a competent rep on the phone who told me to SETTINGS-- Applications-- Manage Applications-- All tab, sort by size. Then, delete cache on the top 10 applications with use.

DID THAT. All phones.

All better now? NO.

My son's phone has a pattern lock on it. With him holding his phone on the edges only, he shows me that his phone will attempt to guess his password until he gets locked out! Then, you have to sign into your gmail...blah blah blah...

IF YOU BUY THIS PHONE, EXPECT TO HAVE TO PULL THE BATTERY OUT IN ORDER TO OBTAIN CONTROL OVER IT WHEN IT'S ON.

Those are the cons. Not even an exhaustive list.

The PROS:
- It looks good
- Sliding Keyboard

But what does that matter?

UPDATE 3/27/2012:
NOT EVEN ONE YEAR LATER, 9 MONTHS TO BE EXACT, AND THIS PHONE IS FAILING MISERABLY! I'M HAVING TO CONSTANTLY RESET IT BY TURNING IT OFF--THEN ON AGAIN. THE POWER BUTTON DOESN'T RESPOND ON THE FIRST, SECOND, OR THIRD PRESS. IT TELLS ME MY SD CARD IS NOT MOUNTED, BUT, I DIDN'T TOUCH IT!

MY DAUGHTER'S PHONE WAS REPLACED BY SOMETHING OTHER THAN A DROID IN DECEMBER SO SHE ULTIMATELY ONLY HAD HER BRAND NEW DROID FROM JUNE TO DECEMBER (6 MONTHS) BEFORE WE MADE THE DECISION IT WAS NOT RELIABLE.

I WISH I COULD GIVE IT ZERO STARS.

UPDATE 5/7/2012:

MY DROID 2 GLOBAL HAS NOW CRASHED COMPLETELY. I went to turn the screen light off to preserve my battery. It restarted by itself, and now, only a black background with white letters that state BOOT. READY TO PROGRAM.

I called Verizon who told me to press X plus ON at the same time. The little droid guy showed up and that's it. We could not do anything from there. They are sending another as a replacement...

Its a good phone for the money, but if you can wait and save get a DROID 3

It is as simple as it gets for smart phones. The A955 is snappy and useful but try not to strain your eyes on the small screen.

Compared to it's older brother Droid X the Droid 2's screen is for your toddler. Also, don't make a career out of typing on the keyboard unless your a fan of arthritis!

The Camera is just ok and in some cases can compares to some 3.1 mp cameras. The video recorder has a frame rate so slow you'll get a headache trying to watch a street fight you recorded the previous night.

App storage is good enough and the screen is scratch resistant, not to many fancy things to mention. It is just a simple and solid phone!

On the flip side, if you are in to gaming or modding/rooting or maybe you just want to flash a custom rom to the phone to enjoy a personalized UI, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! You will regret it once you brick it and have to sbf again and again to get it back. This phone can play 3D games and it can be upgraded with custom roms, but it is one heck of a hassle.

If you brick this phone or get stuck into bootloop you will be clipping USB cords and attaching leads to batteries all night trying to get it back to normal!

Limited RAM, below average cpu speed and a simple design makes this device the plane jane of smartphones. Buy only if you want simple web surfing, emailing, picture mailing, internet radio and games like tetris.

This product is well worth the money, and a very fun phone to use!

This is a great upgrade from the earlier version. The keyboard is easier to use, and the voice text messaging feature is awesome! On occassion this phone's screen will freeze on me so that I cannot answer a phone call coming in. As soon as the call stops ringing I lock and then unlock phone and it works fine. Not a big enough deal to get a new one! I absolutely LOVE all the features, it has definitely been the center of attention amoungst my friends, and people that may see/use it at times.Read full review...

Not Recommended!

I did purchase this phone at a discounted rate, but I still wish I had spent that money elsewhere. This phone is not dependable at all! The battery life is so poor, even when apps are purchased to monitor the battery usage and when GPS and Wifi are turned off. I charge this phone 2x a day and do nothing but text and internet on it. I rarely talk on it. When I do, I believe the mic is either broken or very poor. Everyone I talk to says I sound "muffled". Along with those issues, the screen locks up or goes crazy. I have had it type out random letters in a text message without even touching it. The only good parts are the navigation settings and keyboard for when the screen goes crazy. When making calls, it is very unpredictable. about 50% of the time, it will be calling, and the line is completely dead air. After multiple attempts, I have to turn off the phone and then it will work. I know this isnt my network, since my last phone made calls with no delay or issues.
I do not recommend this phone to anyone. There are so many on the market that are more worth the money spent, so research wisely.
