Good buy

Console works great but a tad noisy. Grandson is very happy that he can play his games when he visits now.

Works but not entirely well

What's good about it is that it turns out and reads the disc, but that's about where it ends. This console worked seamlessly for the first day but, the problems later became apparent. The problem with the console is that it had first started with the disc reader, it had a very hard time reading discs that were clean. To solve that problem i had to clear the entire xbox with air making sure there was no dust left. And when you get past that it gets worse with gameplay, so you start playing the game and then you notice all the graphics in the game look very distorted and somewhat glitchy. It proceeds to do this for a while causing the xbox to stop and blame the disc, when the problem is with the disc reader. The final problem i had was during the middle of gameplay the xbox would randomly decide to turn itself and reboot automatically, it didnt matter when it would do it anyways.(ex : if you have your xbox plugged in it may turn on randomly no contact whatsoever) All in all, I had expected this xbox to have been restored to working order, which it had not been. So my word to the wise wait at least a week and test it to make sure it works well.Read full review...

WARNING

If you are gonna buy a "refurbished" xbox on ebay... DON'T! Spend $50 more and buy a new one because you'll have nothing but problems with them and you'll also be happy that your new 360 will be under warrenty from Microsoft. Most of the 360 models on Ebay are older and WILL get the RROD & E74 message within a month of you buying one, if not days. This is a fact as all of these "refurbished" 360s have been taken apart (voiding their Microsoft warrenty) and have been temporarily fixed using the xclamp fix or some other temporary fix method. None of those methods are permanent and none address the key issue involved with the 360... the cpu and graphics chips overheating, thus destroying them. You also do not know how many times the system has been "fixed". For every time the system has been repaired by some wannabe technician, it will break even faster. And if the system has EVER been "toweled", consider it worthless as that method destroys EVERY chip in the Xbox 360. Save your money and buy a new one. It will be under warranty for 3 years. NEVER OPEN YOUR SYSTEM FOR ANY REASON AT ALL!!!Read full review...

Xbox 360 Pro-60GB

This Xbox 360 Pro was bought three weeks ago.For now I can name just a few things a good:1)It can play DVD and Games in one unit 2)The games are cheaper than PS3 with the same quality and more choices 3)Thy are sale VGA adapter and you can connected to yours LCD monitor and PC speakers and play and watch move What I do not Like it:1)Component A/V original cable not shielded or not so good shielded and when it lay down together with VGA cable you will not have any video on monitor(DELL 24" monitor with component "In") 2)Power AC adapter making high ton whistling all a time.Which one is a good to rid off a roaches from your house but not for lessening 3)You should pay for Internet 4)I got no updates for system like in PS3(May be I should pay for Internet first?) 4)Too many menus and option in a system(I think it should be simple like in PS3)Read full review...

Beware of the CD ROM drive

The XBOX 360 has been out long enough that most people already know whether they want one or want something else. The arcade version that we bought works well enough and has the games that we want, but we have consistently had problems with the CD ROM drive. It seems that it randomly scratches the silver side of the game discs that we play. And it's happened every couple of days. We have tried running the machine in both the vertical and horizontal positions, and are ventilating it with an external room fan blowing directly on the rear of the unit.

One of our discs we ended up taking to a local game store (where we bought the game) and had them grind it down to try to remove the scratches. It took him about 10-15 minutes because the game still wouldn't play.

This is the third XBOX that we've owned, and if it were up to me, we would get a Sony PS4 next time.

Xbox 360 or PS3?

I have both, a PS3 and Xbox 360, so here's how I would break it down:

Graphics:
Xbox 360 PS3 (unless Sony spends time and money on it)

Gameplay:
Xbox 360 = PS3 (They're pretty much the same)

Control Layout:
Xbox 360 PS3 (only because the PS3 layout is old and outdated; its unoriginal)

Power:
Xbox 360 PS3 (Due to its 8 bit processor chip and Blu Ray)

Game Exclusives:
Xbox 360 PS3 (Because all PS3 exclusives began coming out after 2008 while Xbox already had Gears of War and Halo 3 prior)

Cost of Games:
Xbox 360 PS3 (You can find Xbox 360 games cheaper online and at GameStop than PS3 games; plus the game selections for used games are better for the 360)

Accessories:
Xbox 360 PS3 (There are so many accessories for the Xbox 360 like the faceplate, battery paks, etc.)

Game Releases:
Xbox 360 PS3 (It takes 6 to 12 months for the PS3 to release the same game that the Xbox already released; even the arcade games are delayed on the PS3)

Downloadable Content:
Xbox 360 PS3 (There are more exclusive content for a game on the PS3 than the Xbox 360 and sometimes they're free) (Also, contents install onto the Blu Ray disc of a PS3 game; this is not possible for the 360 because of limited disk space, therefore, it uses the hard drive.)

Online Multiplayer:
Xbox 360 PS3 (This one was tough; The 360 has excellent online gaming with over millions connected daily, but it comes at a price) (The PS3 has free online multiplayer, but some games are...just dead. Nobody on.) (Plus with the Xbox, more people have mics so it is easy to communicate in any game)

Online Content:
Xbox 360 PS3 (The PS3 has arcade games that are cheaper than the 360 at regular cost. Meaning, both consoles with the same arcade games cost less on the PS3. However, Xbox has better exclusive arcade games like Perfect Dark, Banjo Tooi, etc...) (Also, the PS3 has more content in terms of themes, Browsing the Internet on the Console, PS2 Games, PS1 games, and you could download these PS1 games onto a PSP)

Overheating:
Xbox 360 PS3 (I can push an extra four hours out of the PS3; while the Xbox, I would need to put it by an air conditioner with an intercooler installed for it to match the PS3) (Plus, the 360 will malfunction after constant overheating aka The Red Rings of Death)

Online Safety/Hacking:
Xbox 360 PS3 (Here's where I'm going to receive the most criticism because of Sony's recent hacking that caused its online network to come down with millions of account info stolen. However, if you look closely, any network could easily come down. Anyhow, the Xbox 360 has the worst gamers you will come across. Some can even hack into your gamer profile through spam or some other method. Some gamers will even threaten you because you pwned them in a game. Bottom line, I've come across more weird gamers through Xbox live than PSN)

Achievement Points Vs. Trophies
Xbox 360 PS3 (The Xbox had it first and it looks really good right next to your gamer profile; it tells gamers how 'elite' you are) (As for trophies, they're there, but not really noticeable unless you look for it in the menus)

There you go, I have broken down these two legendary gaming consoles. But of course, if I had to pick one, I would go with the Xbox 360 because of all the reasons above. It truly delivers an ultimate gaming experience and I don't see how anyone would be dissatisfied with the product, unless you're a PS3 fanboy of course.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Xbox 360 continues to have better graphics and action that all of the PS models, and we have them all. My son loves the Xbox when it works. "The Bad" is that 3 of the 4 we've had all developed the Red Ring of Death. We are just crossing our fingers on the last one. I've spent way too much money replacing and repairing Xboxes. "The Ugly" is that Microsoft took too many shortcuts in manufacturing and there is now a sub-industry out there doing repairs and rebuilds. MSFT has released 3 versions under the name of Xbox 360 (with 3 different power supplies as well) and you have to be careful which one you get since the last one is the most reliable from what I've found. The new Xbox 360 Slim may have solved the problems, but only time will tell. People love or hate MSFT, and I won't get into that battle, but generally I like MSFT and make my living off of their products, but here MSFT has failed the consumer by not stepping up and extending warranties to repair/replace or even acknowledge the issue.Read full review...

Product Performs to Expectations

I had been thinking about a 360 for a while, largely because the few times I have played Rock Band it was a blast. Also, I wanted a more "serious" console to supplement the Wii I bought for my girlfriend. What sold me on this particular model was the price, in addition to the fact that I definitely wanted to get a system with a hard drive, preferably larger than the 20 GB ones floating around.
It runs a little louder than I had expected, but setup was relatively trouble free (getting my network connection to work took some time, but that has more to do with my router than with the console). It would have been great if it had included a controller and an Ethernet cable, but these were minor inconveniences, acceptable for getting a used xbox360 at a good price.
Setting up with the NXE was not terribly complicated, and anyone who has created a Mii will find the avatar creation process both familiar and liberating (more options for customization without being overwhelming). I haven't tried to play a DVD with it, or set it up to run Windows Media Center, but these were both attractive features, since the console took the place of our DVD player in the living room (only so many inputs on the back of the television).
I have a feeling my girlfriend will use the 360 less than the Wii (she fits into the casual gamer stereotype), but I can see myself getting sucked into long gaming sessions on the 360.

Very Good Gaming System

The console is much bigger than our compact PS2 (PlayStation 2), but has a sleek design and everything on it is easy to find, read, and understand. I love the 60Gb hard drive (no more worries about who's memory card is inserted when trying to load or save a game). Even the operating menu is easy to understand.

The best thing I like about it is that its Audio/Video cable is just that, 1 cable. But it includes the standard 'RCA-type' Left/Right audio plugs and the standard yellow video plug, PLUS it also include the Red-Blue-Green Composite video plugs as well. When we switched from the standard component video to the composite, it was a night/day difference in visibility and clarity.

The only things that we can find which we don't like are the cost of the games ($40-$60) and the 'brick' of a power-supply. Thankfully, it has 6-feet of cord on both sides of it so that you can hide it.

Of course, I think the PS3 is superior in its graphics and in its ability to play BluRay discs. But dollar-for-dollar, this is by far a better deal. And then, when you consider the option that Microsoft will offer for it this Christmas (code-named Natal), I think the XBOX-360 will trump not only the PS3, but the Wii as well (start buying MS stock now!)

XBox 360 - 60 GB Pro Edition Review

This machine is amazing! One step up from the original 20 GB, it has more storage for your games. Picture on an HDTV is crystal clear and gaming action is seamless. Wireless controlers are easy to set up, and game setup is quick and painless. Cables are clearly marked and the instructions for console setup are very easy. Perfect for those games that require more memory. This system also has the HDMI feature. The system is still susceptable to the "Red Eye," so make sure that you check it out thoroughly.

If you want something a with a little more storage capacity than the original, this XBox is for you. If you download lots of movies, I would suggest looking at the Elite Edition with the 120 GB harddrive (retails for about $100 more than the 60 GB).

It is time to make step up to the next level of gaming!

Have you been holding onto your original Xbox or PS2 because you weren't sure if it was worth the money to move up to the Xbox 360? Well, you will never find a better time then now. First, let's talk about price. You can pick up a new system with a 60GB internal hard drive with all you need to start playing for around $250. I you are willing to go used - and there are great opportunities to do this through ebay, especially with Paypal protection, you can get a good system for around $150. Not bad when you consider that many xbox games will play on the later 360 models. Personally, if money is an issue I would stick with the 60GB version. Downsizing to the 20GB won't save that much money up front and you will end up buying an external drive in the long run. The 120GB 360 elite is still a little more pricey and if you are just starting out you won't need all the extra space and by the time you do the prices on an external drive will provide a less expensive option.

Second, let's talk game-play. The graphics enhancements on the 360 really are stunning even if you are using a standard definition set. But if you have an HD TV, you definitely want to pick up an HDMI cable and let this machine blow you mind. Cut-scenes and game play in many games take on a DVD level of quality. Games like Halo 3, The Force Unleashed, and NCCA Football (even as far back as 08) present absolutely stunning graphics and options. In addition, fewer and fewer games will be coming out in the original xbox format so bit by bit your gaming world is shrinking. Also, the ability to easily connect four wireless controllers with inexpensive rechargeable batteries that can be charged via any usb port is an added dividend. The controllers provide additional buttons and setups which means additional gameplay options than what you have come to expect on the original xbox.

Finally, the enormous market of used games in excellent condition has driven down the price substantially. Even many brand new games can be found at exceptional bargains for the savvy shopper willing to do a little research. Unless you are a "walk-into-the-store and buy it right now" shopper, the days of paying $50 for a game are over. You can find many fantastic games for a fraction of prices typical when the system first came out.

So all in all the Xbox 360 is position to be an excellent next step in gaming. One con is that the system does tend to heat up, so investing in a cooling fan that the game sits on is well worth a $15-$20 investment to prolong the life of your system.
