Magellan Roadmate 3000T - A Winner

The Roadmate 3000T is a versatile, easy to operate GPS unit. It guides me to my destination, plays great mp3 music, and functions as a digital picture frame for my favorite photos. It loads quickly and the screen is large, bright, colorful and stable. The only complaint I have (small one, at that) is that there are a series of buttons around the outer edge that are easily actuated by accident when handling the unit. Not a big problem once you learn not to touch the edges of the GPS. My brother has had his 3000T for over a year and so far it's been virtually flawless. He did say that once, in a remote town in Tennessee, it took him around the same block three times before suggesting the right direction. I'd buy one again.Read full review...

Does the Job

I wanted my own GPS device because my husband frequently has his with him and I sometimes need it when on my own. (We already own a Tom Tom Go. I think it's model number is 720). I found the Tom Tom user friendly and did not need to read through complicated instructions to figure out how to use it. The Tom Tom has all functions on the touch screen which makes the unit easy to handle).

I reviewed the options in the product decription for the Roadmate and felt that this unit met my needs. It has audible instructions; a 3-D display with day and evening settings; a touch screen for some functions; a rechargable battery that can function while plugged into the cigarette lighter or on it's own juice; came with all the needed cords (plus extras), the mounting hardware and a carrying case; and was pre-loaded with maps of the US.

The challenges I've faced since owning and using the product: There are several buttons on the outer edges of the product which make it clumsly to handle - I frequently touch buttons I had no intention of pressing when I grab the unit. I found just this weekend, that the product is not updated regarding newer residential areas. I had a function to attend in a newly developed area and the roadmate did not recognize the city name. However, I was able to find the directions using just the street name. The unit functions are not easily found or organized. It frequently takes me a few tries to get where I want to go on the menus. The unit has a heavy traffic setting that offers alternate routes when it detects that you are slowing on a highway or freeway. I've used this function and when I encountered a second traffic jam on the alternate route, the unit directed me back to the original congested route I was on. I found this annoying and thought that the Roadmate should take into account that I was recently directed away from that route.

Summary: The roadmate has served it's purpose in getting me where I'm going, it's just not always smooth sailing with the unit functions and ease of use.

Magellan GPS, A+

Easy to use, and a must have for any salesman. I sell in homes and once I type in the address, I no longer have to think, I just drive and turn when the pleasant voice tells me to turn. The map has a nite mode which darkens the screen and is easier on the eyes at night. Magellan is good stuff, I bought my first GPS 3 years ago for $400 and now I bought this refurbished one, that is 10x better for less than $130, delivered. Magellan is a good brand, I recommend them, the only reason I bought a second unit is that my first one was stolen out of my car. The 3.5" screen is the right size, I don't recommend ever getting a GPS with a smaller screen than 3.5.Read full review...

Megellan Roadmaster 3000t

This GPS receiver is very accurate fairly easy to use. The 1800 costumer service is excellent! gives quick redirection routes. screens easy to see in the sun.
The mounting bracket are cheap break easly need metal washer to protect the plastic. I also do not like the prices of the add ons.
Over all a good product just do not tighten the mounting bracket to tight.

my new gps

I wanted a gps for a road trip to Niagara Falls from Chicago. This was a budget trip - hence the drive instead of airfare. I looked at my usual stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, Target) for a price range, and decided to do without.

A friend of mine has helped me sell some items on eBay, so I decided to look - and bid - on a few gps's. Finally, 5 days before my trip, I was the top bidder on the Magellan RoadMate. I received it in 3 business days, and used it immediately.

The trip was excellent in all ways. Especially the tension in the car! Nobody needed a map (although I had back-ups), there was very little screaming, and the directions were exact. I'm a convert. My gps did everything I had hoped, and cost less than any advertised price.

I use the gps for local trips to new places, with the latest being yesterday when I needed to take a package to a UPS customer center. It worked perfectly.

I will continue to peruse eBay to get some of the finer things in life at fantastic prices.

Excellent Unit, Easily Get One For A Low Price, Great value!

I bought a few of these becuase that's what I do for a hobby. Get things, try them, review them and sell the things I don't need. I found these units to be excellent in every way and the only slightly negative is that the buttons on the top can be hit by accident changing the zoom, however the quit button on the lower right brings you back to the previous screen. I kept one because I noticed that it not only had maps for North America, but for the US Territories as well! We were going to St. Thomas US Virgin Islands and guess what? It worked excellently. Locals even asked "hey mon, does that thing work here"? When I told him that it picks satellites, tracks and routes very well, he was impressed and said "the GPS we get here don't work that good"! The one I kept even has local AAA emergency information and there were selections even on the island! A totally great unit though a bit heavy.Read full review...

Everything was there, just too bad it had a problem. I'm sure it's a good gps

The battery was dead when I received it and I have not been able too get it to charge. I have done some research and have found these models have had a lot of problems with the charging ports. It's cheap to fix I just haven't had time to do it so I bought a new one.Read full review...

A Very Good GPS

This is an accurate and very easy to use unit. Map quality is very good and brought up to date. Battery power lasts 4 to 8 hours dpending on use. the only fault with the MAgellan Roadmate GPS units that I have found is the accessories cost so much. If you need a good mapping GPS this is a great one to have.Read full review...

Magellan Roadmate 3000T GPS Reciever

This is a great item for going on trips and finding places to eat, rest, and lots of other things. It has so many qualities I can't metion them all. Has great screen for veiwing and is well understood with the speaking. The only thing wrong with the one I bought was I had to buy another car adapter because the one that can with it would not connect tightly and you had to move the end around until it made connection. Overall this was a great buy and a great item.Read full review...
