It's kinda a beast of a laptop

Here's a 2016 kind of quick review for the EliteBook 8760w. I buy and use quite a bit of slightly older laptops since I don't think we all need the maximum amount of power/features of the newest ones and I get to save a few (a lot of) bucks.

First off, this is a 17.3" laptop. So you're not looking at real mobility. I've used a few 17"+ laptops, including the Apple PowerBook G4 17" and Toshiba Qosmio 18.4", and some are better and thinner designed with a bit more battery life while others are worse. But at the end of the day, traveling around with any of them is far from ideal. So if you need to move about a lot or don't absolutely need a large screen, this probably isn't for you.

Otherwise, it has lots of power (second gen i5 to i7, dual and quad cores), a professional video card (NVIDIA QUADRO 3000M, 4000M, 5010M with 2GB/4GB VRAM), and choices of HD (900P) or full HD screens (plus a version with excellent color reproduction). It has a large trackpad and trackpoint, and a fingerprint scanner working great with Windows Hello in Windows 10 (most also come with a Win 7 COA so it's just a free upgrade away). It is very well built and beautifully designed. Some versions (factory quad core equipped) even have 4 memory slots for RAM upgrade. There's also two 2.5" SATA hard drive slots for RAID or a secondary drive plus a DVD expansion slot that you can use for other thingies (if two supported batteries ain't enough for example). All in all, if you score a good deal with a maxed out or close to highest configured 8760w, you have lots of power in hand (way more than most would need). Just imagine a quad core i7, 16GB+ RAM, discrete GPU with 4GB, and two SSDs in RAID. Even for today's standards, that's kinda a beast of a laptop.

And you probably still have money left in your pockets after. Being an older laptop (we're at 6-7th gen core series CPUs now), you can pick this laptop up for little and get extra batteries, ram, SSDs, even CPU replacements for cheap. Yes, a current and new top of the line workstation will probably give you even more power (even more than more than you need), but the cost is probably 5x or more (I think some configurations of this laptop retailed at $5-6k...). If your business isn't buying a new one for you, you can definitely grab one yourself for peanuts here. I do graphic design work and a little gaming on this and I feel I saved a bundle and am completely content. What a lovely beast this is.

P.s. with the much higher cost of the 8770w, the follow up to the 8760w, I feel it isn't worth it at the moment. The performance is mostly similar with only a bit of an edge to the newer version (unlike the jump from the Core 2 Duo versions to the 8760w). There's no real gains when it comes to battery life or heat produced either so the 8760w works for me. It cost me just south of $300 after getting a charger and battery for an incomplete machine listing. Good luck, ebay friends!
