Makes a good cup of Joe

This unit was used and had a couple of missing parts. But parts were available and was able to bring it back to like new condition without a lot of expense. So it made this purchase a good deal. Makes a good expresso and lattes. Still working on the grind and the amount of pressure to use with the tamping, which is kind of a learning curve. It was an nice addition to our coffee bar. Great coffee for the price,

Overall this is a nice little machine. It is easy to use, and it is easy to clean. It is especially nice that the whole drip tray is removable for washing. The stainless steel is also easy to clean and gives it a sleek and modern look. And it makes a great cup of coffee in about a minute. The coffee is smooth and dark. The steamer works great, and the valve is placed where it is easy to use.

The only downside of this nifty little unit is the water resevoir. It is located in the right side in the back and has to be pulled out to fill it. It is quite difficult to pull out, there is no release button, and requires a struggle to get out of the machine. Also, there are two small hoses that suck the water up into the machine that have to be properly placed in the resevoir when returning to the machine. The hoses will not go all the way to the bottom of the resevoir, so the resevoir must be refilled when it is only 1/3 full. This whole part of the coffee maker could have been designed better.
Overall, a good value for the price, I've seen machines cost twice as much and and the quality of the coffee is no better.

Good value

I bought the DeLonghi EC701 Espresso Machine because it was made in Italy and the machine's stainless steel design was very attractive. I read other reviews about the machine that was not good, so I was a little apprehensive. I decided I would not pay full retail of $325.00, so when I found the espresso maker for 1/3 the retial price on e-bay, I thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did. It is a very attractive machine that heats water quickly. The frother is moveable and quite powerful. I like the warming deck on top of the maker. The machine is easy to clean, and even though I've only had the machine for only a month, I have had no problems other than it does not sit completely level on the counter, but this is only a slight imperfection and not real noticeable. Overall, I am happy with my purchase because I got such a good deal on a nice Italian espresso maker that performs nicely, but I would not pay full retail. At $325.00, you can probably get better quality.Read full review...

Great deal on an awesome espresso machine

I purchased this espresso machine because I love the way coffee tastes when the beans are grounded and made fresh. I checked out a lot of other machines and this one being around 249.99 became my choice. Glad I did because for the money it's the best you can buy. It's small, made with quality, and makes two espressos at once. The froth mechanism is adjustable and gives good pressure of steam. Definitely would recommend this product for whoever wants fresh espresso at home. Read full review...

Good basic full function machine

It has all the necessary characteristics for a compact, fully-featured semi-automatic expresso/cappuccino maker: portafilters for ground and pod coffee, a big reservoir, a built in tamper to press the coffee in before running, a drip tray, a milk frothing tube, and my favorite part... a cup warmer on top.

The machine is ready to produce within 3 minutes, but you have to leave the machine on for a good hour for the cup warmer and insides of the machine to warm up nice for a better cup. Coffee comes out pretty good. Won't make a large cup, but just enough for Saturday morning. Nice basic model, and cheap, besides.

Be careful, I'm not sure the 701 has the timer built in. The 730 does, but mine doesn't, and neither does the one in the catalogue picture here on eBay. Make sure to ask your seller to confirm.

Espresso is good for you

I like the appearance of the machine. The frother does not work the way I would like it to, however, the espresso is great. I am still working out the kinks. Perhaps I am just not doing something right. I got a photocopy of the instruction booklet and half of the words are missing and diagrams are just not there. So, I am making due. This is my second one. My first was a Kruups.Read full review...

Reminds Me of Tuscany in Mid-March!

The ninja-like quickness of the DeLonghi EC701 mocks the competition like the aloof button pusher it is.

It also makes my krappy apartment look livable.

Furthermore... The DeLonghi customer service staff is kind, courteous, well spoken, knowledgeable & highly attractive.Read full review...

DeLonghi EC701

These machines make great espresso, and they produce plenty of steam for frothing. The frothing system is great. The first time I ever used it, I made better froth than my last machine ever made.

Excellent

My first experience with an espresso machine. Very easy to operate, makes excellent lattes. We really enjoy our machine and the excellent price. Everything was above and beyond expectations.
