A survival-horror shooter.

I bought “Cryostasis” because of its fascinating setting and ominous atmosphere. The entire game takes place on a huge derelict ship, lost in the Arctic for decades and covered in ice. I quickly found out that even though it feels and plays like a first person shooter, “Cryostasis” is not your standard action game. It’s more of an arcadeadventure in which combat plays a secondary role and your main goal is not to exterminate all foes but to explore the ship and find out what happened to its crew. The game mechanics are a bit peculiar and it will take you quite some time to learn the basics of gameplay. Most importantly, you need to get used to the fact that you lose strength if you stay too long in extremely cold environments, so you have to continuously search for heat sources that replenish your health. Sometimes these are not so easy to find, leaving you with barely enough energy to survive the fights with the enemies (who are tough, by the way). On the whole, I found the game to be rather hard and I would recommend it only to experienced gamers.

In conclusion, “Cryostasis” is a good game but in order to appreciate it you need to dedicate enough time to it. If you decide to buy it, don’t forget to install the latest patch that not only improves the game engine in several ways but also removes the copy-protection system, allowing you to play without the disc in the DVD drive.

I liked it

This game is really creepy. It has an excellent story, and pretty good visual effects. The combat could use a little work, but it fits the game style. The fact that this game uses PhysX for all its physics processing slows it way down at times. I wish game companies would stop using PhysX. Its a terrible API that only utilizes one cpu core. Overall, framerates are barely within acceptable on a 1gb hd 4870 with settings on high, advanced PhysX off. I would definitely recommend this game.Read full review...

Interesting Story and gameplay

I like this game as it's got a interesting story and the graphics and physics are decent. One con though, optimization. It's using Nvidia physX to push out some great effects but at a high cost of performance. With patch 1.1 you need a decent rig to handle the heavy physX load. Otherwise, it's a good game.Read full review...

cryostasis:sleep of reason

This game started out a little slow and then just got more and more interesting, i wouldnt put it in the fps category its more of a mix of fps and mystery/puzzle category(its not a fast paced run and shoot game) but it was fun nonetheless and for 5 bucks it was well worth it.I'm buying alot of these % dollar games now because if the game is bad you really cant feel bad as apposed to paying 50 and feeling you got ripped off.I thought the movie room scene was great a nice twist in the game. this game is worth anywhere between 5-10 bucksRead full review...

Great Game

The graphics in this game are awesome. You need a newer video card to take advantage of them however. I have a GTX 285 with an 8800 GT dedicated to physics processing and have all video settings on High. When I disabled the 8800 and ran all processing through the GTX 285 I had a noticeable drop in Frames Per Second, so it really pushes your video card! I found this an entertaining cross between shooting and problem solving. It is a little linear in that you can't really go anywhere you want once you have completed a certain level but it seems the ship is so big it would be hard to remember your way around if it were an "open world" type game. The only downside is when you replay it your enemies come from the same places and do the same things each time, so the AI could be a lot better. All in all won of my favorite games.Read full review...

Underrated Gem ( Being that of an icicle )

You are stranded on an iced over, glacier-bound war ship. You learn how you got there and what is the deal with everything being frozen pretty quick. The combat feels very close to Condemned: Criminal Origins, and the enemies are a mix of Condemned and Bioshock in terms of creepy.

You can see where they were going with this and sure in some places it feels a bit short; but there is so much love in this game. The atmosphere resonates in this game. Play in the dark and enjoy the pure fear with the constant need for warmth, and the constant shattering of ice as you make your way through the bowels of the ship.

It's a hidden gem of a game. If you put the effort in to get it working (it works out the box which is cool) on custom settings like resolution and whatnot; you'll be able to enjoy this game fine!

cryostasis: sleep FOR a reason

This game is nothing special and offers nothing new. The frozen environment is cool, and the setting has its scary/eerie moments. Specially considering the primitive and basic weapons or tools used as weapons.
I only played it for roughly 1 hour when I first got it, before I felt compelled to stop, and haven't felt like playing again since, except once, the introduction started but locked up and crashed immediately. So I put it away.
The game play leaves much to be desired.
I give the give an average rating just to give credit for the game makers for trying.

This game is Awesome, easy to play as far as controlling the hero looks great with the physX patch. great effects & eye candy, good story just be sure your hardware can handle it if you don't have a high end VGA card keep setting on medium, this game runs flawlessly on a EVGA GTX 275 with a GTS 250 physX card all settings on highRead full review...
