This unit is great and overall satisfactory for the price.

I did some extensive research before finally deciding to buy the Archos 101. Many other units were just too expensive. The 101 was resonably priced and seemed to have the backbone to do what I needed it to do. The latest firmware update is for Android 2.2. Archos doesn't know if Android 3.0 will be available at the time of this review.

After receiving the unit, I first noticed how light and thin it was. The interface is pretty user friendly. It does not come with the regular Android Market, but with a little help from your friendly neighborhood hackers, you can install it. Instead, it comes with a program named Google AppsLib. It has many of the regular market apps, but not all. The unit has great battery life. I can leave it on all day and it barely looses any battery unless I am using it non-stop.

Some cons: The unit feels cheap. The screen is not as responsive as it could be. The screen resolution is not that great and the camera is very mediocre at best.

You trade the reasonable price for a few quality sacrifices with this one, but all together it is a decent unit to mess around with when you don't feel like carrying a laptop or your cell phone screen is just a wee bit too small.

great value, great buy, well worth the money

Good luck finding a tablet in the market that support external usb flash drive, micro sd card, micro usb ports, flash,nd full, ,720 hdmi video output. I absolutly love it, had it for about a week now, so far no regret, the wifi was easy to set up, but the cellphone tetgering was extremely difficult. Not all phones are supported. It does have it's on andriod market call applib, but i was able to install a crack version of the andriod market, thx to Ginstaller, awsome battery live, 1.3 pixel camera could had been better, but you get what you paid for, defenitly recomend this over the ipad....great buyRead full review...

Not bad for an older Archos GEN 8 tablet.

For a 10.1" tablet, it's thinner and lighter than a similarly sized IPad. The battery life is about the same and the 1ghz processor does keep up with others in its class. The capacitive touch screen is sensitive, the screen is bright (warning: does NOT have a WIDE viewing angle), and the speakers are really good for something this size. It has not only a full-sized usb jack for standard accessories, but has a mini USB jack, as well (well, it MIGHT be a micro USB but I don't have it in front of me at the moment). I have about 20 apps loaded on it at the moment including Go Launcher and their version of a virtual keyboard, both must-haves. It is not supposed to be compatable with Android Market, but getting into the Archos marketplace allowed me to get the Android Market, as well. This particular tablet is an Archos Gen-8 device and it makes it a little harder to get anything Android version over 2.2, but from what I've read, Archos may be porting a version of 2.3 to this tablet. And I have seen a beta version of 4.0 that runs, also. All I really want to do is to be able to run Netflix and Skype. It does both of those beautifully, as is. Even YouTube videos present no problems. All in all, if you can get it for a good price, go for it. Anything over $175 used or $245 new as the time of this writing may be a bit excessive.Read full review...

Bottom line: completely worth it and very addictive

Overall, I'm very happy with it and would buy it again. But, after having played with it for about a couple weeks, there are some pros and cons I've discovered. Pros: Great resolution, music and video player, great dimensions for internet viewing, and the best compatibility with output devices (usb, tv, storage, headphones, etc.) out there. The home streaming of media through uPnP is great, once you figure out how to set it up. The selection of apps is usually good (more to follow in cons). Cons: The speakers are usually loud enough, but not always and they are unfortunately, not nearly as crisp or rich/full as larger speakers. However, other speakers from other tablets/ipods have the same downside. The worst downside is the limited compatibility with some of Google's apps and many calling apps. The calling apps don't recognize the device as a cell phone, so if they can download, they are a bit buggy. The Google apps are a mystery since it runs Android and Google makes Android. For some reason, Google denies many of its coolest apps for use on this device and the only way to get them is downloading patched together apk's. This makes the experience a bit fragmented and sometimes frustrating. That said, there are going to be unique pros and cons for any tablet out there, so for the price, this is a great tablet and well worth it.Read full review...

Archos 101 internet tab

Overall I really like the product. It has several advantages over both Ipad and samsung Galaxy tab. It has a 2 USB ports (standard and a host USB) which is on neither competitor, a built in HDMI output which is only available on the galaxy with an options media stand not available on Ipad, Micro SD slot for removable storage again Not on Ipad. Screen lacks a little in comparison to the others but is sufficient. Another nice feature is the uPnP protocol, if you have a networked media player or harddrive you can stream movies directly to the archos. And at 300ish it comes in 200 lighter than the competitorsRead full review...

Archos 101 (8GB) Tablet Computer

First you need to know three things. One, I am a professional IT Guy. Two, I love gadgets!!! Three, I never write reviews.

I love this tablet. I have had the cheap android tablets before then a b&w Nook. The 10inch screen is great. I installed Arctools and got the Android Market [That rocked!]. I installed the Barnes and Noble Nook application which I used for reading. Android Market makes this tablet by the way.

The screen is responsive. The large screen is nice to read. The battery lasts a good long time (provided you use a little judicious power management). The process is fairly fast as well.

The screen is pretty reflective. I haven't tried reading outside [I don't do much of that anyway].

I can recommend this tablet wholeheartedly. It's great and lots cheaper than an iPad.

Great product with a great price tag!

The Archos 101 Tablet has been great for me and my needs. I was looking for something light weight, dependable and adaptable for everyday use for playing movies, music and games and that’s exactly what I got with the Archos 101! The media players are awesome, the displays are great and I love the touch screen controls. I believe this is something that anyone interested in buying an Internet Tablet should consider, especially for the price.Read full review...

Archos Construction

One of the earlier reviews stated that the build quality is not the same as Apple. I disagree. The review stated that the Archos was made of cheap plastic. The truth is, it is overmolded plastic (over a stainless steel substructure). It is strong and very light, especially considering the stainless steel used. Aside from that comment, I agree with most of the comments as to how good this tablet is. It plays pretty much all movie formats, most audio formats, has the micro SD card, mini-USB and regular USB ports, and most importantly a HDMI port. I have used many devices with it and they all work without problem. The screen issue is a non-issue in my opinion since the tablet was made for personal viewing. If you want to share a video, plug in the HDMI cable and select TV Out. It works really great. I am into streaming files from my computer to the tablet and have downloaded an App that will allow me to print to "bluetooth" printers. I have also tethered it to my cell phone and have gone out surfing the web using my phone as a modem. It works great, never ceases to amaze me. A few people in my office have seen it and put it to the test and they now want one. Oh yes, forgot to mention that the installation of Flash was smooth with no hiccups.Read full review...

Archos 101- says it all (10" screen)

I really researched a lot before deciding on the tablet to buy. Eventually the Archos 101(8GB) Tablet Computer came out tops. I wanted a quality product under $400 (must include international shipping) with 3G and Microsft Office compatibilty. I decided on the cheaper 8GB instead of the 16GB, because you can easily increase the memory by inserting a Micro SD card, and even connecting an external HDD. This tablet really has all (and more) of the goodies you find on the main competitors. The main reasons were: 1)Affordability - cheaper than an iPad, without compromising on quality and support. 2)Microsoft Office compatible- I was not willing to compromise on this. The whole world uses it. 3)Size and weight- 10" screen is perfect for surfing the web, watching video and working. 4)Several connections- USB ports, Bluetooth, HDMI. Perfect for connecting keyboard, modem and mass storage devices, connect to your TV and PC. 5)WiFi and 3G - Surf anywhere in the world via WiFi and tethering to cellphone or 3G modem. 6)Flash 10- Access all your favourite websites (not on Ipad).
So, as you can see it has it all. Think out of the box, do your research and don't automatically presume the more glamorous and hyped product is better. Saying that, I would be careful going for the cheaper knock-offs.

Tablet you will fall in love with

Very few people know of the extensive tablet market. The ipad seems to be the only device people know about, to them it's the only one of it's kind. Truthfully there are many more tablets out there and some that rival or even beat that of the ipad. I say one of those is the Archos 101, 10in Internet Tablet.

With a 10in widescreen high resolution screen, this tablet can provide the best in entertainment, especially when it comes to watching you favorite movies or TV shows. The Archos tablet is built with videos in minds, with almost all codecs required available on this device. Running Android 2.2 Froyo this device keeps you up-to-date with plenty of apps and features. Ever wanted to play Angry Birds on a 10in screen, now's your chance!

The specs are very common in the device, the 1ghz processor, 8 or 16gib flash memory, which almost mimics that of the ipad. The device does however contain a full size and mini usb port, an HDMI out, a SD card expansion slot and an audio out. This can be usually for extra storage and watching those movies contained on your flash drive or external Hard Drive. The device also has a front facing camera perfect for web chatting.

The battery life is nothing less than superb, this device boasts a 10+ hour battery life, so it will be ready whenever you need it. Whether you are reading an e-book watching a video or simply surfing the web, this tablet will be at your disposal.

While the build quality of the device is not at the level at apple, very few products are. The ipad is made of aluminum while this device is the common plastic found in most portable devices. If you must have aluminum than get an ipad but the plastic is sturdy and will do just fine.

The price is the surly one of the most impressive aspects of this device. Listed at $299 it is finally the tablet that is affordable for the general user.

If you are looking for a good affordable tablet computer, this device is definitely worth looking into.
