Apple iPod™ nano - 3G - Black - 8 GB

The 3rd generation iPod nano is totally redesigned. From video playback to the all metal, scratch-resistant (NOT totally scratch proof) case to the obvious different dimensions, there are changes everywhere.

User updates include the new enhanced interface, cover flow, and new games.

PROS: better case with scratch-resistant metal, larger capacity, new colors

CONS: small screen for video watching, wide size will require all new accessories (time to sell all your old nano accessories on eBay)

Stays true to its original purpose: playing music

In light of all the new features that are being added to the newer iPod models, one thing seems to have faded into the mist of features: playing music. With the newer models capable of practically anything but making phone calls, it is easy to forget the original purpose of the iPod, and that is to play music.

I decided to go back to a 2nd generation iPod nano from a 5th generation because I found myself overloaded with features that I not only did not want, but also didn't need. My cell phone is a smart phone, and it can do anything the new iPods can, but it can do those things much better - plus it can make and receive phone calls, texts, and emails. The camera and games on the newer iPods are simply a waste, and I feel like they just inflate the price for features that are not needed. Let's be frank here, who wants to watch video on a screen smaller than that palm of your hand?

In short, if you love to listen to music without the confusion or price inflation of the newer iPods, stick with the 2nd generation iPod nano!

Pros:
-tiny size
-huge storage capacity
-simple and easy to use
-no video
-no camera
-no fm tuner
-no games
-battery life

Cons:
-price
-availability

IPod Nano 2nd Generation (MAC formatted)

Absolutely do not buy a used Nano that is formatted to a different type of computer than the one you are going to use. It will cost you money on top of what you are buying a "used" Ipod for to delete the MAC format and the music of the previous owner and then re-introduce Windows format and your music. Please take this into consideration when buying. I did ask seller and told me it was easy to do but it is not and cost me money to do. I would have gone a different route had I known the truth before finalizing my bid to buy.Read full review...

Best musical device I've ever owned.

I actually bought my first ipod for my daughter. Bought her a first gen nano. She loved it. I later bought me one (just so I could use the Nike + Kit). My daughter never had problems with her first gen nano (nothing that a reset wouldn't fix) (she hasn't had problems with her ipod video either...but this review isn't about an ipod video), and I never had any problems with mine until my 5 year old got the contacts wet (while it was plugged into my Alpine car stereo) and it fried. It had been wet several times before and never phased it, but I didn't realize it was wet this time and left it plugged in. Apple is replacing it anyway.

I use my nano for jogging. I love how it interfaces with the nike plus to keep track of my distance, pace, etc. The sound is very good, and it is extremely durable. The battery life is amazing (I have run it down before when I left it in repeat mode for a day and forgot to turn it off).

I also use it for the calender function. I love how it interfaces with Outlook and imports contacts and appointments. Since I almost always have it hooked up to my car stereo when I'm not running, I always have my appointments within reach.

I believe if you are looking for a music player, the 2nd gen nano is a much better choice than the 3rd gen. Yes the third gen can play video, but you cannot fit many videos on it. If you want video, get an ipod video. The nano video also has a much shorter battery life (about 5 hours verses 24 hours).

If you are considering an ipod, please keep in mind almost all (if not all) negative reviews here are not about the nano, they are about fake nanos. It is a shame people would give this product a bad review when they weren't actually reviewing this product.

Ipod 2nd Gen Nano

I bought an 8gb 2nd gen ipod nano for my Boyfriend as a Christmas present. If I didn't know how well the 2nd gens worked, myself, I probably wouldn't have bought one. With the new generation nanos capable of taking video and pictures, who would, right? But the 2nd gen is still a very good choice for people who just want to do what the ipod was made for - listening to music. It's a wonderful contraption that is super light-weight, user friendly, and easy to use. The one and only thing that I don't like about nanos is that the earphone plug is at the bottom of the ipod itself, and that's personal preference (owner of a 30gb video for 3 years, so top is what I'm used to). If you don't have the need for any extra fancy video taking capabilities on your ipod and just want to listen to music, a 2nd gen is always a good way to go; but even if your music library isn't huge, 8gb is a good amount, because anything less fills up way too quickly.Read full review...

The 8GB IPOD NANO 2nd Gen

About a year ago I became interested in purchasing an MP3 Player. I shopped around trying out all the available brands at the time. My conclusion then and to this day is that Apple makes an MP3 Player that beats the rest in every aspect.

Why is it so good?

Ease of use. The learning curve on my Nano was 5 minutes. It is so easy to operate it's amazing. I've played with others that were just overly complex, yet did the same things as the Ipod.

Quality. From my year of ownership I'd have to say that the Nano is a very well built piece of electronics. I've had no problems to date despite heavy use and the occasional accident. The battery still holds a good charge after hundreds of recharges.

Accessaries! All you have to do is type "Ipod" in the ebay search engine and you will see that there are TONS of stuff you can buy to complement your Ipod. I've seen that it can be a real hassle to find aftermarket stuff for other brands. This allows you to really personalize your Ipod and make it fit any application you need it for. Example, I just purchased a 2007 Honda Fit. For a little extra the dealer installed the Honda Music Link. This allows me to plug my Ipod into the car's sterio and search through my song using voice prompts!

Conclusion: The only downside I see is in the difference in price. It is possible to purchase most other brands at a lower price. But you are definitely getting more for your money when you buy the Ipod for 50 bucks or so more.
Hope this helps!

2nd Generation iPod Nano is a must buy!

The Nano was brought out to replace the Mini, but this new remastering of the iPod is a fusion of the 1st generation Nano and the Mini. Available in capacities of 2, 4, and 8GB (priced at $149, $199, and $249, respectively) these have a scratch-resistant aluminum shell, rounded edges, and various colors like the mini, though the colors are only available in the 4GB models. You can get a 2GB Nano, though it only comes in Silver. If you go under Apple.com’s website for deals and refurbished products, you can still get a 2GB Nano for $99.00, but remember it is the first generation. I purchased the 8GB Nano, though it only comes in black, but this version is the largest for storage.

Though it looks like the iPod Mini, it is more like the 1st generation Nano. The 2nd Generation Nano is the same height and width as the original Nano, but with the rounded edges, it feels like it is shorter on the sides. This design also makes it feel a lot thinner than it was, though it is only a .01 inches thinner. The center button has changed too, having a concaved button for your selection, which makes it very easy to use and place your thumb without looking. This new Nano, with the same body shape, now has a longer battery life. Apple claims that it will last 24 hours, but I was able to get just over 25 hours of playtime – Which is nice.

The Nano comes with similar features as the previous version such as Volume Limit, Stopwatch, Screen Lock, and support for the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, but now has a music search function, a brighter screen (40% brighter), improved sound quality (in my opinion), and the newly redesigned headphones.

Also, the bottom of this unit has changed slightly. The headphone jack and the sync port are slightly farther apart, which eliminated some of my old accessories, which made me slightly disappointed.

In regards to syncing, this unit actually takes longer to sync than my old Nano. To sync 2GB on the first generation took roughly 5 minutes, but with the 2nd generation of newly designed Nano’s, it took almost 10 minutes to do 2 gigs. This seems to be the common findings amongst other 2nd generation Nano owners as well. They did upgrade the software right after the release, but I have not noticed a difference in syncing.

A downside that the Nano did not get that the 5th Generation Ver. 2.0 of the iPod received was the option to purchase games from iTunes. Hopefully this will be something that will change in the future for the Nano. Also, the new packaging, which is environmentally friendly, does not have a CD version of iTunes included in the packaging, which is going to disappoint first time iPod Nano buyers.

As a fan of the Mini and a converter to the Nano, I love this design. I really do. I think the aluminum casing is the way to go. I was really reluctant to give my Mini up for the Nano, but now that the redesigned Nano is this way, it is a perfect blend of the two. I highly recommended this device to Apple lovers and new MP3 enthusiasts alike.

Pros:
-Brighter screen
-Better sound
-Aluminum scratch-resistant casing
-Concave select button
-Amazing battery-life: 24 hours plus!
-Search features
-New colors to choose from

Cons
-Still no built in FM tuner
-Does not play movies
-No games through iTunes
-Sync port and headphone jack put farther apart not allowing old accessory use

iPod Nano 8gb

The new nano from apple is definitely an improvement over the previous design. When I got my first iPod, they had just come out with the new nano and video iPod. I was intending on getting a nano, but I wasn't happy with the available hard drive sizes, so I ended up getting the video iPod. The video and 1st gen nano are good players, but the malebility of them is just shy of horrendous. When I heard they were selling nanos that were made out of annodized aluminum, and had a bigger hard drive, I knew that I had to get my hands on one.

So far, the 2nd gen iPod nano has been phenomenal. The battery life is near 5x as good as any other mp3 player that I've ever had with an LCD Screen, The picture is beautiful, the click wheel is very smooth, And Most of all, There still isn't a scratch on it.

The only reason I didn't give this a 5/5 is because of the price. I guess larger but smaller is going to cost more than larger and larger.

Thank you,
-Jake Moore

8GB iPod Nano

PROS: super thin, good durability, double the battery life, good sound quality. iTunes software, user friendly (the best out there).

CONS: still wouldn't want to sit on it. the new Nano's tough aluminum casing is perfect for everyday use. it can take the beating but the aluminum casing will ding up if you drop it though. (my nano has a minor dent on the corner) not happy about that. it definetly needs a case for this.

The twenty four hour battery life is noticably better than the generation one. generation one is twelve hours. generation two is twenty four hours. (double life)

As for the screen brightness, it is way more brighter than the generation one. I also have the generation one and I compared them two and the generation one is a bit though. generation two is way brighter. I bought the 8GB because of the size and I wouldn't have to worry about the capacity in the future.

8 GB iPod Nano

I personally feel that the 8 gb iPod nano is a bit of a "tweener." With 8 gb of storage capacity, or about 2000 songs, you can fit a lot ... but not quite everything. The advantages of the 8 gb nano are the compact size and use of flash memory rather than the spinning disk drive featured on the larger video iPods (the flash memory is less likely to malfunction if dropped or bumped). This is great if you are predominantly using the iPod for workking out or "on the go" use. However, I quickly realized that I wanted to put my entire music collection on my iPod and decided to upgrade to the 30 video within about 2 weeks. My advice would be to think about what you are really wanting to do with your iPod before you purchase. I think 8 gb is prolly overkill for a work-out MP3 player (unless you are training for mega-marathons) but not nearly enough to rip an entire music collection. I would personally go for the 30 gb video or wait for the 16+gb nano if you must have the smaller size and flash memory.Read full review...
