WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NANO

Ipod nano is the best thing to happen to happen to digital music since the iPod itself. I bought this in hopes to have the next cool thing out there, ( i had a mini before and sold it to buy a nano because i didn't have 1000 songs and i wanted to have pictures)

When i first got it it was GREAT, i plugged it in and all the sudden within about ten minutes it was updated with the latest software and it had all my music and pictures on it. Then things went bad.

I was going on a trip that day and when i was back i noticed my iPod nano was scratched. it had not been abused, or even near something that could have scratched it. Go to any store with one on display and you'll see that pretty much whenever you touch it it scratches. YOU MUST BUY A SKIN AND SCREEN PROTECTORS OR IT WILL BE SCRATCHED UP LIKE AN OLD RECORD!

Because the screen is just under the plastic that covers the front of the nano the whole screen is very vulnerable to scartches and smudges which are very hard to get off on this certain plastic.

Positives:

small and sleek

holds all the music most people need

is great if you want pictures but not video

in my opinion sound quality is pretty good.

Negatives:

More Fragile Than a glass ornament

screen is too small for pictures

apple's customer support is really bad

no wall charger, a big problem for those of us that can't get to our usb ports easily on our cpu.

if you are looking for a great toy buy a psp. if you are looking for a mp3 player, try something else. if you must have this, get a knight's armour!

Best

This is the most beautiful iPhone model, aesthetically. I wish newer models were made this size...I miss using my hand one sided.
Some features like Home, Apple TV, and Apple Pay don’t work on this older version. Everything else to my knowledge works.Read full review...

Apple iPod nano 4 GB

Bought it because of the Apple aspect, Battery DOES NOT LAST...about half of what apple claims. I bought 2 of these and they are NEW and the same. HALF of what I expected. Battery meter... not valid at half goes about 40 minutes. Not a good gauge. It is small and easy to use. Very well set up. Slips into a mode at no given moment and must be reconnected to the computer to resolve issue. Hate to say it...it is no better than my RIO was with regards to liability. Yes, it is COOL AND TRENDY..that's what it is.Read full review...

So much great stuff in such a small package!

I just bought myself a white 4gb Applie iPod Nano and love it. Youre able to download pictures that are displayed on a high resolution color screen. In addition to having tons of your favorite songs, you can work with Microsoft Outlook and add all your contact info, calander, and to-do notes to your nano. The nano also comes with 4 different games which are a good distraction if your bored. I love the "spin wheel". It's like a tiny touch pad for a computer!

My ONLY complaint is that they advertize a 4 gb storage capacity, but when I got mine and plugged it in for the first time, the available capacity is only 3.7 gb. Apparently, if you had no programming etc on the nano it could hold 4gb (but then it wouldn't work). It is noted in super fine print on the packaging - but it would have been good to know before! Oh, one other thing. Get something to protect the nano ASAP, the front screen scratches VERY easily (like with a cloth!). If you want it to look great for more than a day - I suggest you get protection for it immediatly. Apple is making a "Agent 18" hard case for the nano that I just bought. Very good idea!

Overall? Great buy, small, compact, highly useful! Very sleek and attractive. It will definately make your friends jealous!

Ipod 4.1 gb.

I bought this to listen to all my MP3's while at work (instead of the musak they pump in to break our spirits). What can I say... by now everyone should at least be familiar with the concept of a mp3 player... and the Ipod lives up to that concept well in so much as it indeed does play mp3s. The battery life, however, means that you'll be getting through half your collection before it starts blinking. A must get accessory is a wall charger... unless you are in your car for a long time you probably won't charge up enough on the drive into work to get it to full, and most companies would frown on you plugging into your desktop's USB to power up. Remember though... don't buy the brand name accessories! The price is inflated, and the performance is no different. Cell phone chargers come with the same USB connection that the Ipod uses, and are a LOT cheaper. Just match up the power output on the plug to the input on the ipod, and you will be set.
The extras that come with the Ipod are a novelty... but really not necessary and just end up wasting valuable battery charge on things other than music.
Where Ipod shines really is if you already use Itunes. The two mesh perfectly (almost as if they were made to go together....), and moving your music, ratings, and Mp3 tag information over is a snap... all of which you can use on the road to sort your playlists.
If you don't have the massive library of ITunes .99 songs, then skip the pricy name brand and go for the cheaper "off-brands" that often give just as good sound.

Excellent MP3 Player with a few things to keep in mind

The Nano excells in everything it does. The compact size is perfect for someone who doesn't want to carry around a bulky and cumbersome player. Since there is no hard drive on the Nano, you don't have the worry of a hard drive crashing or skipping. It is so incredibly light and small, that you barely know you have it in your shirt pocket or strapped to your arm. The sound quality is excellent! I went ahead and purchased an adapter (from Monster) that lets me play it in my car over three different FM frequencies of my choosing.

I feel the 4GB capacity is actually plenty of space. I have mine maxed out right now with 992 songs. Apple claims that you can store about 1000 songs. I figure 992 is close enough for me. I'm sure I could get up to 1000 songs if I were to remove some of the larger songs but who cares. You'd have to drive a LONG TIME to get through all 992 songs!

The features on the player on really nice. One feature I particularly like is while listening to a song, you can rate it from 1 to 5 stars. Then when you sync it back up with iTunes, those ratings will be brought in as well. Then you can sort your songs by your rating as well. It even has a few small "games" on board.

Now for the downside...Apple apparently used a different supplier or manufacturing process for the screen covering on the Nano. The screen scratches UNBELIEVEABLY easy. After the first day of use (and I thought I was babying it) I ended up with a couple scratches across the screen. The screen is still readable but I've read reviews from some individuals whose screens were almost non-readable after a very short period of time. I've also heard that there is a class action lawsuit against Apple for this very same problem. The lawsuit claims that Apple knew about the problem but went ahead and released the Nano anyways. I've also heard horror stories from individuals who have tried to get a replacement but Apple refused. Since mine is still viewable, I've decided to wait and see what happens with the lawsuits to determine my next course of action for a replacement or repair.

Once other thing to keep in mind is not to keep the Nano in your pants pocket (front or back). I have had friends who have actually cracked their Nano when they sat down.

All-In-All, the Nano is an excellent MP3 player! I would however invest in a some sort of screen protector before even using it for the first time.

The Nano is a masterpiece with unlimited accessories

I love my Nano more than other mp3 I have own and I have owned a few. However I have never paid $250 for a mp3 before either. It is pricey but for those who has to have the latest and greatest gadgets then this is it. The feel and look of this thing is unreal. Smooth all around so it's fun to hold and touch. So slim it can fit anywhere.

There are a few gripes I have about it. One being that it doesn't have a built in FM tuner which would really come in handy to listen to when you want to listen to fresh tunes. Wish they had more choices and better armbands for this. Seems like better ones are finally coming out. Unit scratch easily so you definitely want to buy a case or skin for it. Battery life is bad for a flash player. Average life seems much shorter than what the website claims at 14 hours. Yes it may be true if the backlight was off the whole time which makes it very hard to see what you are playing since the screen is less than 2 inches. From my personally experience with the backlight set to 5 or 10 seconds I get about 9 hours.

Also for the price you don't get much funcionality such as being a recorder like most other mp3 players do. Also does not come with a an ac charger. The only way to charge is to connect to your usb port unless you buy a charger or a docking station for extra money after already paying $250. Most of the docking and speakers systems that you can for it are pretty expensive. New FM remote tuner just came out for this but is about $50 bucks!

I bought the Ihome Ipod Alarm Clock and although the clock can't play the music volume up very high is a pretty good gadget to go with your ipod. It let's your listen to your mp3s without headphones and the music fills a small room. It also let's you wake up to the Ipod which is cool. All in all I would of given this an average rating but the ultra cool look plus high resale value and ton of accessories that are available for this unit makes me give it a good rating.

The Good:
Small
Slim
Light
Clock
Colorful screen
Viewing Pictures
Good looking
Tons of accessories for it
Best resale value of any mp3 player

The Bad:
Average to poor battery
Easily scratch
Expensive
Expensive accessories
No charger
Have to buy armband if you want to exercise
Most armbands for this are crappy
No FM tuner
No built in recorder
Can't play video

The Only iPod You'll Need! Great Design & Usability!

If you look at my other reviews, you'll notice that I am stingy with the stars, this is the only product to date which I have rated a 5 out of 5.

I've got a 30GB Photo, a 4GB Mini, and a 1GB Shuffle, and this is by far the best iPod I have ever used. With 4GB, I can carry about 400 songs at the best MP3 quality. I only use 320kbps, 44.1KHz, normal (not joint) stereo. I only use MP3 for portability, and not AAC. 400 songs gives me about 25 hours of play time, which is great for road trips pretty much anywhere!

The 30GB Photo is good for keeping my entire collection of songs in one place, but so is my laptop computer, where I have iTunes loaded. If I am on a plane trip, I can easily listen on the laptop if I have to hear a specific song not on the Nano.

In the car, the Nano is ultra-convenient as well. I can actually just velcro it to the dash board - it's so light - rather than buy an expensive dock/cradle for it.

The only possible fault with the nano is that the memory capacity is pretty small at 2 or 4GB. But this is a matter of technology still being developed, and I'm sure that we'll see much larger capacities in the near future. I'd also like to see Bluetooth built-in, so that it can play music through my car wirelessly - build this into the next edition Apple!

All in all, a great buy - you won't be disappointed. Expect people who have not seen the Nano in person to stare at your Nano when you walk by!

Buy that iPod Nano!

This is a great little machine, and you will love it whether you are new to iPods or, like me, coming from the earlier Mini: it is a delight to use, and does everything to make listening easy. Apple has used solid state technology this time around, which helps size, performance, battery life and - I expect - overall reliability (not that I had any problems with the Mini), so I couldn't be more pleased with the Nano.

The Nano is sold with various memory options. Get plenty (I went for 4gb), as you will soon use it, even if you keep a lot more in your library on iTunes.

Buying used gear always carries some risk. Check out the seller, and ask questions through eBay if you are not comfortable. The seller should say if there are any problems, but misuse aside, I wouldn't expect any with the Nano.
Of course, you have the usual eBay recourse if the item is not what you are led to expect. I have had no problems with my particular buy, and it was another nice eBay experience.

You will have to link the Nano to your own computer (PC or Mac). That may mean downloading the latest iPod software from Apple (including iTunes if you don't already have it), and perhaps resetting the Nano or changing its name. All that is easy, though, and there is no charge. When you are done, it will be as though you had bought the treasure new, just for yourself: any engraving aside, the previous owner will simply fade away...

On the other hand, Apple has made it hard to transfer to your own computer whatever music may come with a used Nano. It will still "know" only the original owner, and resetting it to yourself wipes out the contents. This is to discourage illegal copying, but software exists out there for well under $25 to bypass Apple's protection. If you are entitled to the iPod's contents, look on the internet for a suitable product before you do the reset.

The iPod Nano is way up on my list of fun technology. Go ahead and indulge yourself: enjoy!

just the coolest thing I've ever owned!

Besides what you can read for yourself on apple.com, I'll tell you what I have found. These are just raambling snippets of info that may spark your interests. With a little research on these topics, you'll be on your way to enjoying the magnificent iPod.

I have dropped my iPod twice. Once in a train station in Canada on a granite floor. No Damage. Not a scratch. Not a problem. Simply amazing.

Sunscreen will damage the plastic of the iPod. You would think they tested the plastic for this since it is a must have item at the beach or pool. I have a permanent finger print on the face now.

I bought the Apple dock, but hardly ever use it. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't buy it.

MUST HAVE! There are clingy, removeable clear screen protectors you can buy to protect the plastic face of your iPod. Buy them (they usually come in pairs). It will keep the screen from scratching. Made by Madkatz, ClearTouch, etc. Search "iPod Screen protectors" on Ebay.

Every Tuesday, Apple updates their store with a free tune. It's usually excellent, but it's usually someone you've never heard of before. You don't have to own an iPod to use iTunes. Download it and reap the same benefits.

You can subscribe to the free Podcasts of your choice in iTunes. These Podcasts are very entertaining. There are meny topics and areas of interest in iTunes. There are additional casts on the web. Again, You don't have to own an iPod to use iTunes. Download it and reap the same benefits.

Do your research before you buy a charger. The iPod video only come with a usb cable for charging via the powered usb on your pc. Apple's wall charger uses the usb cable and costs 30.00 USD. Look at other choices like Belkin. For the same money, you get more.

Buy the Apple in-ear bud style headphones. Also buy Shure E2c foam sleeves. Take off the grey rubber Apple tips and put the Shure's on. The sound quality is the best you'll find for the price. You get a better seal in the ear canal. I have a $300 set of Denon audiophile can style headphone with 40mm drivers. The Apples sound as good. For noise isolation and improved bass, this trick is for you. I had to set my iPod EQ to reduce bass to balance the new level. It's great now.

Unless DLo made improvements to the transpod for your auto avoid it. It has poor sound quality and low level output. I usually listen to my audio in the car on level 18. With the DLo I have to increase the volume to 35+ for the same output. At that level, background noise is amplified during quiet passages. It is an excellent charger, all downfalls aside.

It's just the coolest thing I've ever owned!

I hope you like the review!!
