Hard to set up but the price is good

this 2nd generation Apple TV only has the following that still works: iTunes, Netflix, Radio, and downloading movies from apple. The set up is even more strange because you have to sign in with your iCloud account, then the Apple TV denies you, but you get a 2 factor code. After that, sign in with your iCloud account again, but this time type in your password AND the 2 factor code at the end of the password. then the Apple TV will have you signed in to access your music and movies.Read full review...

It was not ready to use or "fully loaded"

This is my second Apple TV2 and when I received it, it was not entirely set up. Had I not known what to expect, and what it should look and work like, it would have been useless to me. In the end I was able to complete the set-up and the necessary downloads and it works for the most part. Quick set-up, great home network

I bought AppleTV primarily to stream Netflix and to access the music, photo and video libraries housed on my Apple G5. It's shockingly easy to set up get running on Apple TV — it's as simple as HDMI cable and optical into flat screen tv, and go. I particularly enjoy the iTunes AirPlay feature that allows me to stream music to multiple rooms, and with iPhone's Remote app I can control the system from anywhere in the house. AppleTV also has a screen saver feature so while the music is streaming, our photo library plays in slide show mode on the television screen. I also set up a YouTube channel online and filled it with old super hero cartoons that my kids and I can now watch on the big screen. It's still somewhat limited in terms of the programs available and it hasn't yet replaced Comcast cable for us, but I sense that this is the next step in true content on demand.Read full review...

Great platform for XBMC

As far as I can see you'd only buy an ATV2 to jailbreak it and run XBMC etc. (And you don't want to risk Android geek hell with the various dedicated boxes that are popping up). Otherwise you wouldn't pay more than an ATV3 costs to get this older device with less iOS functionality. My ATV2 came with 4.3 (84F55/2557) on it, which Seasonpass seamlessly JB/upgraded to 5.0.2 which has airplay and the new menus. After a reboot I could SSH (Putty) onto it and install XBMC, (be patient & accurate typing the linux command lines) which in no time had me using Amazon Prime and watching ripped DVDs off our Synology NAS. (Which is where I came in, after my 18 mth old Seagate GoFlex up & died). So, the ATV2 does what you're really getting it for, does it well, and I found XBMC to be way more usable than WD TV Live, Boxee or a Roku 2 XS. Tip: Try XBMC beforehand by installing it on your PC, it works exactly the same and you can get the hang of it with a keyboard & mouse instead of a remote. As with all Apple products, this product works perfectly for Apple TV. Can mirror iPhone/iPad screen without a doggle wired connection (with proper ios version/model iPhone/iPad). Apple TV

I am not crazy about all Apple products. I don't hang out at the Apple Store and covet becoming a "genius"; however, I have to give credit where credit is due. The last few products Apple has brought out have been eye openers. Apple TV is now positioned to do the same, but it will take some more time to fully realize the potential of this device. Apple TV effectively allows you to stream whatever is on your iTunes to your TV and home theater system. Moreover, it has built in support for Netflix, You Tube and a few other internet based media content providers. The picture quality and performance for these services are well worth it. Slick design and features, but there corners were cut

This is an amazing product! I have the cheapest internet service from AT&T and I still get movies from Netflix and Apple Tv without problems. My wife likes the apple music feature a lot too--as good a Sirius and free!

In many ways this is an designed to be an Apple TV delivery system. They do let a few partners tag along (YouTube and Netflix) but this is an exlusive club! You cannot expand to add services like Blockbuster, Hulu or NBC.com.

The remote is simple and as intuitive as an iPod. My chief complaint is that the remote is too small and requires a watch battery to run. If you lose the small remote, you are up the creek.

Also, Apple does not include an HDMI cord. This is a $15-$30 additional expense. Why couldn't Apple get all of us a bulk discount and include it in the box?Read full review...

Nice product for the money if you like apple.

I purchase the product, to acquire full internet viewing and online access. Additionally, I wanted to watch movies streamed from my laptop. I was happy with the latter, and with ability to watch personal photos and home movies. The device allow you to play anything connected to your itunes account. The range of my home network was expanded using the device. Setup is quite easy.

But, I mostly dislike the limited internet viewing. There are too many promo's displayed requiring purchasing. Programs can only be viewed from your itunes account.Read full review...

Works great for Netflix and HBO NOW but misses YouTube app

It is a nice device but version 2 of Apple TV does not play YouTube anymore. I use it for Netflix and HBO NOW but youtube would be a nice to have app as well. Be aware about it before you buy. On bright side it could be used to Air stream content from phone. It does not always work great depending on how screen ratio of YouTube videos fits into TV screen. Native YouTube app does it better when it comes to adjusting video to TV screen.

It has tons of apps that probably not so useful but they could be removed from home screen in settings.Read full review...
