We’re in the middle of summer road trip season when you might be considering packing up your gear and hitting the highway. So we assembled a suite of four recent articles about choosing the right carriers, tow hitches, and trailer brakes—and how to think about buying a recreation vehicle.

What we haven’t yet covered is trailer style. Check out the four articles below and then get inspired with the images below of the coolest matching car carriers currently available for sale on eBay.

Choosing the Right Cargo Carrier
There are a multitude of available car carriers—falling under two basic categories: those that fit on the roof of your vehicle, and the ones that are fastened to your vehicle’s trailer hitch. We provide tips on picking the one that’s right for you, based on safety, convenience, and what you want to carry.

How to Choose the Proper Tow Hitch
The proper tow hitch can make the difference between you and your trailer arriving safely at the campground—or getting stuck. If you routinely tow a large trailer or boat, chances are you have a truck equipped with a gooseneck hitch. If towing is more sporadic, you probably use a ball hitch. Why is it critical that you install the correct ball hitch? And what do you need to know about something called tongue weight?

RV Buyer’s Guide: Travel Trailers, Fifth Wheels and Motorhomes
Recreational vehicles that combine mobility with the comforts of home are an ideal way to take extended road trips. Most first-time RV buyers probably envision a motorhome when thinking about a recreation vehicle. But that’s just one type of RV, and there are different classes of motorhomes. And for a more economical alternative, you might consider a travel trailer or fifth wheel—sometimes called towables because they attach to your pickup or sport utility vehicle.

Maintaining Trailer Brakes for Towing Safety
If you routinely tow a fifth wheel or large boat, your truck is probably equipped with a trailer brake controller: a device that uses motion sensors to measure vehicle speed and determine how much braking is needed to stop the trailer. The controller together with trailer brakes and tires are critical safety components. We offer seven useful tips.

1960 Cadillac Coupe
The 1959 and 1960 model years for the Cadillac Coupe de Ville are known for those iconic large sharp tail fins—as well as dual bullet tail lights and signature grille patterns. To avoid having a generic trailer block the view of those snazzy design features, the current owner matched the styling in a towed unit that doubles down on Cadillac-ness.

1997 Plymouth Prowler
In the mid-1990s, Chrysler was looking for a way to inject high-performance enthusiasm back into Plymouth—and settled on the 1930s hot-rod-inspired Prowler, a two-seater drop-top. The Prowler, which was produced between 1997 and 2002, is known for an attention-grabbing retro design featuring an exposed Formula racer-style front suspension. But did you know that nearly 400 matching purple trailers were produced in the same period?

jeep-trailer-8001952 Willys Military Jeep
This Willys Jeep was beautifully restored by a father and son team. The job resulted in a period-correct olive green post-war Jeep based on the CJ-3A.  An axe and shovel are mounted on the passenger side and a spare tire in the rear. But for additional gear, you can stow it in an authentic 6’ x 4.5’ army trailer with olive canvass top and functioning trailer brakes.

This top-of-the line Pop Top Weekender comes with a transformable interior package that sleeps four, has a foldout table, and a matching 2016 custom dual-axle trailer. The seller calls the trailer a “work of art built to the highest standards.” It comes with a 2″ lift kit, wall-to-wall carpeting, privacy glass, interior lights, and electric package. That’s a strong foundation for a builder to create an completely original custom trailer.

dodge-trailer-1-8001927 Dodge Hot Rod
This 1927 Dodge—which came out a year before the company was absorbed by Chrysler—was customized into hot rod form just this year. The two-tone yellow-flame paint job extends to the matching trailer, which features a stainless steel gas reservoir and vintage rolling Coca-Cola cooler—for quick access to roadside refreshments.
