This ‘02 Trans Am WS6 Is the Holy Grail of Firebirds

American  /   /  By Jim Travers

The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is one of the most iconic American muscle cars. One of these rare models from the final year of production is currently for sale on eBay.

The model was born in 1967 on the twisty circuits of the racing series that provided its name. The Trans Am remained the most potent Firebird variant until Pontiac’s pony car went out of production after the 2002 model year.

This is a Collector’s Edition model with more power than previous WS6 incarnations. It’s finished in the brilliant yellow paint reserved for these rare models. These are among the most sought-after incarnations of the WS6.

This desirable WS6 model was garage-kept and meticulously cared for since it was new. The car shows just 42,000 original miles. The seller reports that it runs and drives perfectly with no rattles or issues. It is also equipped with the desirable six-speed manual transmission rather than an automatic gearbox.

All the Right Stuff

Opting for the Trans Am’s WS6 package brought worthwhile upgrades to the LS1 5.7-liter V-8, including:

The owner also added a custom shift knob and climate control knobs. Mindful of this car’s value to collectors, the seller wisely retained the original audio system, wheels, and controls, all included in the sale.

All other original WS6 equipment, including graphics, body cladding, fog lights, and badging, is still with the car. Black leather performance seats emblazoned with the Collector Edition logo will keep the driver and passenger in place during aggressive driving.

The value of these cars is on the rise. However, they have yet to reach the levels of earlier Firebirds and other muscle cars. That makes this turnkey classic worth a long look.
