Low-Mileage ‘91 Lincoln Town Car Offers High Bling at Great Price

American, Classics  /   /  By Jim Travers

For much of the last century, Lincoln sedans represented the pinnacle of American luxury. They are favored by moguls, mobsters, and anyone else who can pony up the necessary cash to get behind the wheel.

The Lincoln Town Car served as the definition of an urban “black car.” The combination of luxurious interiors with legendary durability and low operating cost made Town Cars a mainstay of limousine operators. Legions were pressed into service ferrying executives and celebrities. And they racked up hundreds of thousands of miles on the streets of major American cities.

This 1991 Lincoln Town Car for sale on eBay was spared that kind of service. Just shy of 29,000 miles, it looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. By Town Car standards, it’s barely broken in.

Lincoln Town Car = Classic Luxury + High Tech

A complete redesign of the Town Car for the 1990 model year yielded huge success, helping Lincoln achieve record sales and earning Town Car Motor Trend’s coveted Car of the Year award. An aerodynamic shape lent a contemporary look, and the Town Car benefited from a slew of new luxury and safety features, such as:

  • Memory power seats with lumbar adjustment
  • On-board telephone
  • A trip computer
  • Novel (for the time) anti-lock brakes and passenger airbags

For 1991, Lincoln Town Cars like the one listed received further advancements, most significantly replacing the old 5.0-liter V-8 in favor of a more powerful, high-tech, and fuel-efficient 4.6-liter engine. The overhead cam V-8 produced 50 more horsepower. Other improvements included four-wheel disc brakes.

Finished in deep red with a matching cloth top and optional red leather interior, this Town Car presents a striking look. It’s less introverted than a typical black car. Chrome details and aftermarket wire wheels with Lincoln-branded center caps add to the style. This is no fleet car.

Did Anyone Actually Drive This Car?

This exceptionally well-cared-for Lincoln Town Car gleams with a virtually flawless appearance. The interior is every bit as immaculate as the exterior. The foot-operated parking brake pedal looks like it’s never been stepped on. The white lettered on/off operating instructions are as bright as new. This triple-red beauty is loaded with power windows, locks, mirrors, seats, and a glass moonroof.

The only feature that reminds you this is a 30-something-year-old car is a factory cassette player. Pick up a handful of cassette tapes for cheap on eBay and treat your passengers to a throwback experience.
