It’s hard to believe that 2013 is already drawing to a close. We had amazing contests, heard some great stories from enthusiastic car owners, and of course, we got to drive some pretty slick rides. How fast time flies, especially when you get behind the wheel of some of the cars we did like the new Jaguar F-Type, SRT Viper or 2014 Stingray. The New Year is not likely to let off the gas pedal, but before we cross the finish line, let’s put it in reverse and take a look at all the fun we had at eBay Motors in 2013.
What better way to start a year than in style? That of course means the launch of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray at NAIAS in January. General Motors North America President Mark Reuss said it best: “Like the ’63 Sting Ray, the best Corvettes embodied performance leadership, delivering cutting-edge technologies, breathtaking design and awe-inspiring driving experiences.” We most certainly agree.
February saw one lucky winner drive off in Bubba Watson’s Ford F-150 Raptor. It only took a simple downloading of our app, joining eBay Garage, and entering a photo of his ride to win. Congrats Charles!
Our friends across the pond had some fun this year as well, though. eBay Motors’ UK racing team kicked off the 2013 British Touring Championship season with their decked out BMW 125i. Nice lookin’ ride guys, even if we dare say so ourselves.
In May we sat down with CarCast host Adam Carolla, to discuss his Lamborghini Miuras and why he doesn’t trust traffic in Los Angeles. As the World’s Fastest Car Show entered it’s third season, we chatted with Justin Bell and the success of the series, which kicked off with an in-depth look at the Dodge Viper.
Once summer was in full swing we launched our eBay Garage Fantasy Car Sweepstakes, which saw Frank Roberts take home the grand prize.
Richard Rawlings, owner of Gas Monkey Garage and host of Fast N’ Loud, is all about buying low and selling high. Mix that in with a lot of hard work and axle grease and you come up with lots of cars that people want to get their hands on, which they did, on eBay Motors.
Ford paid our campus a visit over the summer to show off its new EcoBoost vehicles like the Ford Fusion Energi and C-MAX hybrid plugin cars. Thanks guys – but we have to say, the F-150 was the most popular EcoBoost to test. There was leagues of great boat content this summer as we took a closer look at the 2011 Cruisers Yachts 390 Express and all of its new toys and additions. Things got so hot at eBay motors we even had a toddler get in on the fun.
As summer wrapped up we took the opportunity to see what Audi had in store for us with the A5 Cabriolet, the ultimate drop top. In October, we kicked off an event in partnership with West Coast Customs to celebrate our military with The Road Home Sweepstakes. We heard amazing stories from exceptional veterans and one lucky winner walked away with a special 2012 Chrysler 300S.
With the launch of eBay Collections, users now have the tools on eBay to express themselves and discover new content based on those passions. We’re excited to watch it grow in years to come. As we close out the year in eBay motors we take a look at the some of the offerings from the LA auto show – and if you love roadsters like we do, you have to check out the Jaguar F-Type Coupe, which made its debut this November. Don’t think that Ford didn’t end the year without a statement of its own though. Almost 50 years later, we got our hands on the sleek new 2015 Mustang and boy was it impressive. Our final celebration this year, was the delivery of a brand new Audi A5 Cabriolet to our Choose Your Wheels sweepstakes, Ruby of Jacksonville, Florida who is now an eBay customer for life.
