Since its launch in May, the second season of Between 2 Rides has closed public streets, taken over race tracks, and spread its message of hands-on car creativity throughout the land. The show’s cast of the brightest stars from YouTube’s automotive universe had something to prove—that a ride is more than the sum of its parts. Mission accomplished.
There were five stops and five wild episodes, with a cadre of production pros using a slew of top-shelf equipment to produce spectacular rides and high-speed shenanigans.
The season finale is a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to create a multi-part Hollywood-spec automotive YouTube extravaganza. Check it out, and then spin through all five episodes.
Episode 1 – Faster Food
Competitive Eater Nick Wehry earned his pay on this one.
The second season kicked off with hamburgers, fries, milkshakes, and a good ol’ American V-8 tire smoke-filled BBQ. Cleetus McFarland goes sideways while on a lunch run with his C5 Z06 Corvette (a.k.a. Donnie the Drift Car). It’s a one-on-one battle with a stock C5 Corvette. They make one point very clear—if you want to drift like a pro, having the right parts, a working e-brake, and a strong stomach are e-ssential. Watch now.
Episode 2 – Driving Vs Diving
TJ Hunt’s modded BMW M4 XDrive Competition
Shutting down the streets in one of America’s greatest cities is a Hollywood staple. You’ll want to watch this episode on a big-screen TV as TJ Hunt takes to the (closed) streets of Downtown Los Angeles in his modded BMW M4 XDrive Competition, pairing off with a stock base-model BMW 430i. Things get bonkers when the crew wires up professional skydiver Travis Fienhage with a heart monitor to determine whether a freefall or a tire-shredding session with TJ sets a higher BPM. Watch now.
Episode 3 – Air Tag
Modded Can-Am Maverick X3
In the most videogame-like episode of the bunch, NASCAR Craftsman Truck driver Hailie Keegan fends off a swarm of drones at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park. Piloting a pair of Can-Am Maverick X3 side-by-side UTVs, she takes to the air with series host Amelia Hartford in the navigator’s seat. World Champion Drone Pilot Jet.FPV takes chase, commanding a pesky divebombing fleet with a simple goal—smash into Deegan’s careening Can-Ams. The footage looks like it’s straight out of a tinsel-town sci-fi flick. Watch now.
In my line of business, usually I try not to crash my drones. So it’s a really good treat to get out here and just get to crash.” – Jet.FPV
Episode 4 – Monster Squad
CBoysTV with the original Cyclops 4×4
Monster trucks bring out the little kid in all of us. So when the CBoysTV crew shows up at the Agua Dulce Movie Ranch’s wrecking yard to turn it into a desert playground for a car-crushing extravaganza, you can expect hilarity. The boys do not disappoint. Monster truck pro Terry Woodcock brings a pair of his majestic competition Cyclops 4x4s to demonstrate what it takes to smash roofs in the big leagues. Watch now.
Episode 5 – Heat Check
Gears & Gasoline’s 2021 Time Attack Championship-winning Civic EK
Going fast on a budget in 2023 starts with five letters: CIVIC. Dropping an inexpensive K20 engine into an older Honda Civic is a well-proven and cost-effective way to make the coveted hatchback fly. Whether you opt for a big turbo or go the naturally-aspirated all-motor route, getting the power to the pavement is the real trick. With a K-swapped Civic tag-team approach, Gears & Gasoline band together with ThatDudeInBlue in a pair of very different hatchbacks to battle a stone-stock 2023 Civic Type-R on a closed canyon road. It’s an eye-opener. Bring on the bolt-ons. Watch now.
And That’s a Wrap
We hope you enjoyed watching the second season of Between 2 Rides as much as we did creating it. When it comes to building with bolt-ons, seeing is believing. With that in mind, let us know in the comments below which episode you enjoyed the most and what wild builds you’d like to see in Season III.
