It presents as almost new but remains ready for hauling gear, groceries, and kids. It’s a stretch to call a two-decade old luxury SUV a collector car, but the QX4 holds a certain nostalgic appeal.
Barely Broken In
This 2003 Infiniti QX4 has run since new in the moderate, salt-free climates of Nevada and Texas. So it’s rust-free. Moreover, with 123,000 miles on the odometer, the 2003 model has been driven sparingly over two decades.
One of the first luxury SUVs to hit the market, the QX4 came loaded with these goodies:
- Automatic climate control
- Bird’s Eye maple wood trim
- Bose audio system and rear-seat entertainment system
- Leather upholstery
- Power windows, locks, seats, and power-heated outside mirrors
- Wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel
Despite its luxurious appointments, the QX4’s sturdy underpinnings—shared with the rugged Nissan Pathfinder—make it a well-equipped SUV ready for off-roading and towing.
Can Go Anywhere in Style
Power comes from a 3.5-liter V-6, an engine known for durability and longevity. This advanced engine is in the VQ series of engines used in new Infiniti and Nissan vehicles.
Variations of the V-6 made Ward’s Auto World magazine’s list of the Ten Best Engines for 14 consecutive years. The engine is good for 240 horsepower in this 2003 QX4. It’s matched with a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.

The interior shows just as well, thanks partly to new leather seat cushions up front and re-dyed seats all around. (Read our guide to seat covers.) A single crack on the dash shows the only evidence of time spent in a warm, sunny climate.
The engine compartment shows just as well, with a tidy appearance and all factory equipment in place. Recent work includes:
- A new air conditioning unit
- Replaced headlights
- A brake service
- Suspension upgrades front and rear
Better Than a Boring Used Car
This SUV is 20 years old. But its timeless, rugged style still looks fresh, especially with the great care it received over the years. Infiniti didn’t make many of them, and most succumbed long ago to a life of hard use.
With the venerable Nissan V-6 under the hood, this QX4 should provide many more years of service. At $6,950, the stylish, well-equipped classic SUV is priced like a simple used car.
