eBay Listing: 1966 Land Rover Defender Series IIA
Land Rover, the very name conjures up images of vehicles driving across deserts, through wilderness and up mountains. If the Mini Cooper was the car of the British people, the Land Rover was their SUV of choice. Before SUVs were common, Land Rover seemingly invented a marketplace for two or four door sport utility vehicles. Jeeps came first of course, but Land Rover is still a synonymous with off-roading ability.
Land Rover, like many British companies, arose out of the ashes of WWII. The first concept vehicle was actually built on a Jeep chassis, but with its own bodywork, similar in appearance to the LR Defender shown today. Land Rover definitely represents the saying, “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” Design of the Land Rover series stayed in production from 1948-1985, and even longer if you consider the Land Rover Defender, which is essentially a modernized successor of the first Land Rovers Series I-III. The production run has gone on for 67 years, essentially with a similar design to the original concept; an impressive feat that is soon coming to a close.
Today we are featuring a 1966 Land Rover Series IIA four-door 4×4 wagon that underwent a full frame-off restoration that incorporates extra protection from the Defender 100 military chassis. On top of the extra-rugged chassis is a perfect body with each panel being completely rebuilt and custom-fitted. It has a more modern 3.0L GM 4 cylinder engine with a 5-speed transmission, and the engine features a weber carburetor, and custom intake/exhaust manifolds. Power is nearly double and has 30 percent more torque over the factory engine.
Inside has been refreshed with a completely new interior, new cooling system and all-new modern wiring.
What really caught our eye about this particular Series IIA Land Rover was its honest presentation in the pictures, showing a vehicle that looks just as appropriate in the city as it would in the Serengeti.
