eBay Listing: Andy Warhol’s 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow
Andy Warhol is one of the most influential figures in contemporary art and pop culture. His enduring imagery, insatiable curiosity, and creative lifestyle has inspired creative minds worldwide and continues to cultivate new artists by funding institutions that support them through his Foundation for the Visual Arts.
During his most commercial period, Warhol lavished upon himself with the most luxurious car money can buy – a 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Without a New York driver’s license, Andy relied upon his friends to act as chauffeur whenever the occasion arose. Famous celebrities such as Liza Minnelli and Truman Capote are just a couple names that piloted the Silver Shadow with Andy as its passenger.
The Spirit of Ecstasy was Andy’s prized possession and was meticulously maintained at his Park Avenue, Manhattan, New York City garage. Since Andy’s early passing, the Silver Shadow has changed hands twice and the current owner has been carefully maintaining and servicing the Rolls-Royce — just as Andy would have done if he still owned the luxury coach. All service records from 1990 are included in the sale in addition to provenance letters from Warhol’s biographer, Victor Bokris and friend, Ultra Violet.
Also included is a copy of the original purchase order from Rolls-Royce, a copy of the 1988 sales invoice and copy of the Warhol Enterprises title.
