eBay Listing: Rare and Wild Porsche 918 Spyder with Weissach Package

Getting your hands on Porsche’s flagship performance model is a tricky proposition. The company will build only 918 examples of their 918 Spyder hybrid hypercar. As if just any 918 Spyder wasn’t rare and extreme enough, consider the Martini-liveried 918 Spyder equipped with a Weissach package, sporting only 189 miles on the clock, now listed on eBay for $1,859,900.

918-1

As Porsche’s entry in the hypercar segment—which includes the likes of the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrai—the 918’s performance credentials are formidable. Its drivetrain consists of a mid-mounted, 608-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 that’s supplemented by a pair of electric motors that deliver an additional 279 ponies, resulting in an astronomical combined output of 887 horsepower and 940 pound-feet of torque.

918-6

All of that power is sent through Porsche’s venerable PDK gearbox and adaptively routed to either the rear wheels or all four corners when the situation calls for it. All in, Porsche said that the 918 Spyder is capable of 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, but independent tests by both Motor Trend and Car and Driver showed that Porsche’s figure is conservative. The 918 has managed to post sprints as low as 2.2 seconds, breaking acceleration test records for both magazines in the process.

Same Power with Less Weight and Better Aero

While the standard 918 is a rare bird in terms of production and performance, examples fitted with the Weissach Package take both a step further. Named after the German town of Weissach where Porsche’s main research and development facility is located, the package cuts nearly 100 pounds of weight from the 918. That brings its curb weight down to just over 3,600 pounds by way of magnesium wheels, a lightweight brake design, ceramic wheel bearings, and titanium chassis components.

918-5

The Weissach package also adds enhanced aerodynamic aids that helped the 918 post a sub-seven minute lap around the Nürburgring ahead of its public debut in 2013—with Porsche factory racing driver Marc Lieb at the helm, setting a production car lap record in the process.

But perhaps the most noticeable enhancement for the Weissach Package is its connection to Porsche’s motorsport heritage via the classic Martini Racing livery.

918-3

During the 1970s, Martini Racing and Porsche’s racing efforts became tied together when a Martini-sponsored 917 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1971. Porsche 936s would go on to win the title again in 1976 and 1977, both wearing the Martini Racing livery, while Martini-sponsored RSR Turbos and 935s captured various titles throughout the 1970s for the Porsche factory team.

Even though this road-going Porsche 918 Spyder might not currently have an immediate home in motorsport, its performance capability certainly gives it the authority to wear its iconic paintwork.
