Something about this song stuck with us when looking at today’s 1976 Volkswagen Bus. Most likely it was due to its vibrant color purple offset well by its lighter white paintwork. The two-tone paint job on this Bus just captured something in our hearts, much like the Volkswagen Bus does for many others.
What is it about the Volkswagen Type II or Bus that captures the hearts of so many? There are so many reasons that it has been such a faithful companion to so many people from so many walks of life for so long. As of December 2013 the rear engine Bus or Kombi ceased to exist as a new model. To commemorate this closing chapter, Volkswagen De Brazil put out a look back video with a British narrator. The video is entitled “Kombi Last Wishes.”
And, as we watched this commemorative video, we couldn’t help but smile knowing that this one vehicle touched the lives of many. Ourselves included.
The design of today’s selected second generation Volkswagen Bus is known as a Bay window for its large panoramic front window style, produced from 1968-1979 in the U.S.A. market. In the Brazilian market production of a very similar vehicle ended relatively recently in December of 2013.
What drew us to this 1976 Volkswagen Bus was its exact purple and white color. This Bus’ purple definitely left us in a haze, and ever since we first saw it things just don’t seem the same. It calls out for a vanity license plate reading “PRPLHAZ.” Memories of good times, great music, and freedom associated with the open road come to mind along with the words funky and cool for such a great example of a Volkswagen Bus. Well restored and well cared for would be obvious phrases to mention for this model, with $24,000 already invested into its care, and a list of new parts in its description. It shows that for someone this vehicle was a labor of love.
