A rose is a rose by any other name. For General Motors in the early 1960s, there was a seemingly endless sea of opportunity epitomized by the 1963 debut of its Buick Rivera. A man by the name of Bill Mitchell and his teams were hitting some truly great design home runs. Some believe this Buick was created as a result of Bill Mitchell seeing a Rolls Royce in the foggy nights of London. Whether true or not that story seems unimportant now, but what does matter is that his team had the vision to design this car from the ground up. We admire what Bill Mitchell’s team did back then because not only did they create this creased, sharp-edge beauty, but they also fashioned the first Corvette Sting Ray. And we’d argue both cars still look quite keen some 50-plus years later.

You might ask what makes this older classic Buick so special? Aside from its age and its impeccable condition, it is mainly about its unique style. Today’s new Buicks or even a late model Buick might not get a second glance, but this classic oozed sophistication, luxury, and style years before those elements were taken for granted. Apparently Sergio Pininfarina, the automotive design icon that styled Italian vehicles, declared the 1963-1965 Buick Riviera to be an American beauty.

“It’s one of the most beautiful American cars ever built.”

That is high praise indeed from a person and company known for styling Ferraris.

For the non-car enthusiasts, we’ll say this about this generation of Buick Riviera, it is agonizingly pretty. And while some might say pretty old or pretty archaic, we’d say pretty classy. We specifically liked this ride’s non-factory wheels on white wall tires, its mile deep black paint, and its clean lines that accentuate this beauty. Sometimes part of the human condition leaves us perplexed as to why many would agree that one design is so good looking, and others not so much. But with the Buick Riv’ it comes down to sharp points and coke bottle styling which resembles a coke bottle turned on its side, with curves and points in all the right places.

Also sometimes certain shapes just seem right to the masses. From 1964-1965, the years this Buick was produced, you could have bought a Ford Mustang for the first time ever, which was another car that appealed to the public, but wouldn’t you rather have a Buick? We would, and we’re sure someone out there will agree with us.

Bid now on this ‘Rose’ of a car, in a sinister color, that just looks right from any angle. eBay listing ends on Dec 23 at 1:50 PM (PST) for this razor sharp 1964 Buick Riviera.
