Nissan Approves 600-HP Juke-R 2.0 Production

Late last month, Nissan announced it will produce 17 examples of its bizarre and awesomely fast Juke-R. The new version of the model, dubbed Juke-R 2.0, not only features enhanced carbon-fiber bodywork, it also sports a 600-horsepower version the 3.8-liter twin turbocharged V6 borrowed from Nissan’s world-beating GT-R NISMO model. With a 0-60 sprint in three seconds flat—think Ferrari 458 Italia—and a newly revised aerodynamic package, top speed for the Juke-R 2.0 approaches 200 miles per hour.

The Juke-R 2.0 is an outgrowth of a 2011 project, in which Nissan Europe and RML Group (the British motorsports house) shoved the drivetrain, suspension and chassis components of the Nissan GT-R—the automaker’s all-wheel-drive supercar—underneath a tweaked version of the quirky Juke crossover.

The Nissan Juke R is Blisteringly Fast

The result was a 485-horsepower crossover that can hit 60 miles per hour from a standstill in about three and half seconds; run through the quarter mile in less than 12 seconds; and reach a drag-limited top speed of more than 160 mph. With the GT-R’s incredible grip and stopping power also on tap, it means the diminutive SUV can go toe-to-toe on a road course with the likes of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS—unlikely company for the high performance favorite from Stuttgart.

In late June, Nissan surprised performance fans when the Juke-R 2.0 raced down at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England.

Public Outcry

While initially only two examples of the first Juke-R were created—one in left-hand drive and one in right-hand drive—the public ate up Nissan’s wild creation. The led the company to approve a limited production run of about 21 units for the CUV equipped with a 545 horsepower version of the GT-R’s motor.

A GT-R at the time cost just under $100K. A standard Juke could be had for about $20,000. The Juke-R’s $500,000 price tag made it clear. The production run was meant to satiate the desires of sultans and oil barons who simply couldn’t live without this oddball in their supercar collection.

We thought that the world’s hunger for a peculiar and absurdly fast CUV might be satisfied by the first production run of those 20 or so Juke-R cars. Alas that’s not the case—based on approval to produce about 17 units of the latest bonkers Juke.

Nissan Juke R Prices

Take note, shoppers: The Juke-R 2.0 will see a price hike beyond $600,000. For those playing at home, that’s more than 100 grand over the price of the limited production Lamborghini Aventador SV, which earlier this year posted a lap time around the Nurburgring in less than seven minutes.

How Many Nissan Jukes Were Made?

Nissan offered the Juke from 2010 through 2017 in America, with more than 210,000 sold over the timespan. Needless to say, there’s always an ample supply of (non-R) Jukes in the eBayMotors listings.
