*Please note this is about the DT 880 Premiums -- the 600 ohm version. This review applies to both, although the 250 ohm Pro version is slightly less power-demanding. The Beyerdynamic DT 880 Premium 600 ohm headphones are really great mid-range headphones. They're very similar to the Sennheiser HD 650 headphones in the way that they're very neutral and linear in their sound stage. I also find these headphones to have a much more accurate representation than the DT990 Premiums (they also look better). I find the DT 880s to be much more comfortable than the Sennheiser HD 650 cans and more attractive frankly. Additionally, you can get really nice leather ear pads if you prefer those instead. J$ used to make very nice ones, but they're still available online. A disclaimer about these headphones is that they take a lot of power to drive. Hopefully, if you're looking at these you already know enough about them. To give you an example, headphones generally range in impedance from 32 ohm to 600 ohm so these are at the high-end of the spectrum. That doesn't mean that it takes a $1,000+ headphone amplifier to power them, it just means that listening to them directly from a portable device probably isn't the best idea. If you would like recommendations on portable or stationary headphone amplifiers or other recommendations, please send me a question. I used to own a pair of these modded by Moon Audio with Black Dragon V3 cables, J$ pads, and balanced termination, and they sounded wonderful.Read full review
Well rounded with enough treble and sound stage for gaming. They're not bass monsters, but they are very detailed if you plug them into a really good source and have a high quality music collection. Comfort is huge if you're going to wear them for long periods of time, so comfy. You can tell the ohm rating on the cord plug, if it says 32 or 600 then you know, but if it doesn't have a mark at all, it's the 250ohm version. Handy since on the headphones there's no markings to tell any other way.

I'm not sure what a more pricey pair of cans would offer, but for the price, I am extremely impressed. They sound great and are comfortable(I notice I can keep these on my ears much longer than the AKG K240s I also own). And they are a noticeable sonic upgrade from the DT 770s I used to have.

The DT 880 headphones sound open and airy, with great soundstage and fidelity. Item arrived as described.
