Dark Heresy - 40K Role Playing - Finally!
4 of 4 found this helpful With twenty years of solid background to draw on, the Dark Heresy role playing game will provide a richly layered experience for those lucky enough to get a seat at a gaming table. For the GM, no thought has been spared in providing tools and materials to allow the game to proceed in a smooth fashion.
Mechanically, the game draws heavily on the Warhammer fantasy roleplay system, and why should it not? The highly talented people who worked on WFRPG over the years might have expected their efforts to be used in such an anticipated setting. Where other games have 'races' for the characters, that would be inappropriate in the 41st Millennium's highly xenophobic society. Here the human characters have different worlds of origin, providing the subtle differences between them that lead to excellent role playing opportunities.
The story line is straightforward and yet quite interesting. The characters have been selected as junior Acolytes of the Imperial Inquisition - rooting out the bearers of treachery, treason and heresy. Adventures can be violent and action packed; or contemplative, detective and research oriented - as the group prefers.
Well that is all I have for now. The 400 plus pages demand more careful study than I've been allowed so far - the book was only released yesterday! More to come.
