Product safety disclosures

Displaying product safety information in your listings provides buyers with clear information about the product risk and can help them make an informed buying decision. Product safety information might include, for example, the presence of button batteries or coin batteries or suitability of the product for children under three. Sellers need to include the related product safety information in their listings when delivering to the EU or Northern Ireland. This page will help provide you with details of what you need to do.

Add product safety information to your listings

The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) applies to all sellers who deliver items to the EU or Northern Ireland.

Include product safety information in your eBay listings

You can include product safety information when you create new listings or revise existing listings. Here's how to add product safety information to your listing:

1. Create a new listing or revise an existing listing. 
2. Go to the Item disclosures section.
3. Select the toggle next to Product Safety.
4. Choose up to 4 Pictograms and/or up to 8 Statements.
5. You can also add Additional information (120 characters). The text field does not support URLs. If you want to add a link to more details, then you will need to update your item description.
6. If more pictograms or statements are required, you can add a picture to your listing to display the associated product safety information (pictograms and statements).

Here's how to add product safety information to your listings in bulk:

1. Create multiple new listings or select a group of existing listings to revise. 
2. Use the check boxes on the right to select which listings you want to add product safety information to.
3. From the Bulk edit drop down choose Item disclosures.
4. From the Item disclosures panel select Product Safety.
5. Select the radio button next to Change to.
6. Choose up to 4 Pictograms and up to 8 Statements.
7. You can also add Additional information (120 characters). The text field does not support URLs. If you want to add a link to more details, then you will need to update your item description.
8. If more pictograms or statements are required, you can add a picture to your listing to display the associated product safety information (pictograms and statements).

Categories and products that require product safety information

Product documents

Sellers can upload up to 10 product documents, per listing, to comply with GPSR requirements. Documents can be in .pdf, .jpg or .png format, and sellers can specify multiple languages for each document.

Uploading product documents

You can include product documents when you create new listings or revise existing listings. Here's how to add product documents to your listing:

1. Create a new listing or revise an existing listing. 
2. Go to the Item disclosures section.
3. Select the toggle next to Product documents.
4. Add up to 10 Product documents, selecting the type and language(s) for each one.

Types of product documents

• User guide or manual: A user guide provides comprehensive instructions on how to use a product. It covers features, functionalities and troubleshooting tips. A user manual is essential for helping customers get the most out of their purchase
• Troubleshooting guide: A troubleshooting guide assists users in identifying and resolving common issues with a product. It offers solutions to problems, error codes and troubleshooting steps
• Safety data sheet (SDS): A SDS provides information about the hazards, handling, storage and emergency procedures related to a chemical substance or product. It’s essential for ensuring safe usage and compliance with regulations
• Instructions for use (IFU): Instructions for use are commonly provided for medical devices, and provide detailed instructions for healthcare professionals and patients on how to use the device safely and effectively
• Installation instructions: Installation instructions guide users through the process of setting up and installing a product. They include step-by-step procedures, diagrams, and safety precautions
• Declaration of conformity (DoC): A declaration of conformity is a document that the manufacturer, or authorized representative, needs to sign to declare that the products comply with the EU requirements. By signing the declaration of conformity, the manufacturer, or authorized representative, takes full responsibility for the product's compliance with the applicable EU law
• Certificate of conformity (CoC): A certificate of conformity certifies that the product meets specific standards or specifications. It’s often required for international trade
• Certificate of analysis (CoA): A certificate of analysis is common in industries like pharmaceuticals and food. It provides detailed information about the composition, quality and purity of a product
