What’s happening?
On April 10, we announced that we have entered into a three-part transaction and partnership with Collectors, an industry leader in sports and collectible card grading and authentication, to bring a more seamless and powerful experience to the US collector community. The transactions include the sale of the eBay vault to PSA, which will provide an effortless customer journey across buying, grading, selling, and storage. eBay will be integrated into PSA’s new vault experience, unlocking new benefits to customers like listing at the time of grading and easy selling on eBay via consignment through PSA. See the full press release.
What are the updates to the vault?
PSA will be taking over ownership and operations of the eBay vault in the coming months. For now, eBay will continue to manage the vault and vault inventory until the closing of the sale to PSA, with no changes to service. After closing, PSA will continue to operate the vault in the same manner as today until the launch of the new PSA Vault experience. Once the new PSA Vault launches, your vault experience, including your digital collection, will reside on PSA’s website and app, and will also remain viewable through the eBay Collection tool. Vault account holders will be given advance notice of these changes.
What are the benefits of this deal to me?
This partnership will unlock a more powerful experience for the US collector community. Collectors will continue to have access to eBay’s vast inventory, while gaining a seamless experience from grading to secure storage through a trusted grading provider. Selling via consignment through PSA can now easily be done on eBay, and our integration with PSA’s new vault experience will unlock new benefits, like listing at the time of grading.
Will vault submission still be available during this time period?
Yes, you can still submit cards into the vault for the time being. Prior to the launch of the new PSA Vault experience, submissions may be paused for a short while. Once the new PSA Vault experience launches, you can submit your cards directly through PSA.
Will there be a rate change?
Yes, but not until the launch of the new PSA Vault experience, which is anticipated to happen later this year. For the time being, there will be no change to rates. Once PSA launches the new vault experience, their rate card will apply. You can read about PSA’s rates, terms, and conditions here. PSA will inform customers in advance of any anticipated changes.
I am a seller on eBay. Will my bank information be shared?
No, it will not.
Who do I contact with an issue or questions about my existing vault account?
Until the launch of the new PSA Vault experience, please contact eBay customer support. We’re happy to discuss these upcoming changes and support all aspects of your collecting journey. After the launch of the new PSA Vault experience, you will need to contact PSA customer support.
Do I need to register for a PSA Vault account?
Not yet. To ensure you have continuous access to your collection, your vault account registration and inventory information will be shared with PSA once the transaction is closed and PSA owns the vault. If you have an existing PSA account under your eBay email address, your vault information will automatically be added to PSA’s new vault experience once they’ve launched it. If you don’t yet have an account, you’ll be given further instructions on how to register in advance of the new PSA Vault experience. No financial data will be shared in this transfer.
What if I don’t want this change? Can I withdraw?
Yes, you can withdraw your items. Account holders with items in the vault can withdraw their inventory at no cost until the launch of PSA’s new vault experience. Coupons for free withdrawals will be automatically applied at checkout. Visit My eBay > The eBay vault.
Will my inventory be moved?
Vault inventory and purchases shipped to the vault will remain at the current vault location, until the transition of ownership to PSA and launch of the new PSA Vault experience. Afterwards, some inventory may be moved to other vault locations owned and operated by PSA in Delaware. You’ll be notified before any of your inventory is moved.
What can I expect after PSA becomes the owner of the vault and launches the new PSA Vault experience?
After the launch of the new PSA Vault experience, your vaulted collection experience will be accessible via PSA’s website and the eBay Collection tool, and you’ll be able to sell on eBay through PSA. Learn more about PSA rates, terms, and conditions here.
Additional eBay vault FAQs
What is the vault and what does it offer?
The vault is a secure, climate-controlled, physical storage facility for graded trading cards available to eBay customers. In addition to best-in-class storage, the vault offers opportunities for seamless buying and hassle-free selling with the confidence that comes with Authenticity Guarantee.
How is the vault secured?
The vault facility is protected by 24-hour security. Cards are stored in a climate-controlled environment, and using our state of the art VMT (Vault Management Tool) we will limit operator touches to receive, put away and if necessary, pick-pack and ship.
Can I visit the physical vault to check on my items?
No, for security reasons, the vault is a private secured facility. You can view high-quality photos of your cards, plus stats about their value in your Collection.
How do I know if a card I want to buy is already in the vault?
Cards that are already in the vault will have a vault badge next to the listing photo. Browse eBay like you normally would and look for items with the vault badge. If an item is not in the vault, but is eligible to be, you can send it to the vault yourself upon purchase.
Where is the vault located?
The vault is in Delaware.
Enrollment
How do I currently enroll in the vault?
Enroll in the vault with your eBay account. If you haven’t already, you’ll need to sign up for two-step verification. We want to make sure that the vault and everything in it is secure, which starts with securing your account. Set up two-step verification in the Sign in and security section of your Account settings.
Only eBay account holders who are registered in the United States are eligible. Certain users will also be required to provide a name, address, date of birth, and last four digits of their social security number.
Submissions
What are the ways I can currently send cards to the vault?
You can ship eligible cards from checkout or you can ship directly to the vault from your home.
Can I send cards to the eBay vault from other vaults or marketplaces?
Yes, once you are enrolled in the eBay vault, you will simply need to go through the same submission process. Once the submission is confirmed and you are provided the packing slip, select Print packing slip to find the C/O details of your eBay account and VS eVTN information that will need to be included on your shipping request from the non-eBay vault. The VS eVTN must be included or the submission processing will be delayed.
The items listed on the packing slip must be shipped together as a single shipment from the non-eBay vault. Please ensure that the requested items from the non-eBay vault match the items from the eBay vault submission list found on the submission details and on the packing slip.
Once the tracking number is provided by the non-eBay vault, upload this tracking number through the “Add tracking number” button on the submissions details page.
As a reminder, please do not include “eBay” nor “eBay vault” as the business name nor recipient of a package as it can draw additional attention to the package from couriers and handlers prior to reception at our facilities.
If the eBay vault is in Delaware, why am I shipping a card I have sold to another location?
All cards destined for the eBay vault are required to go through our Authenticity Guarantee service at no cost to the buyer or seller. If your buyer chooses to send their purchase to the eBay vault, you will first ship the card to the partner’s facility to be inspected by professional, independent experts.
How will I know when a card I purchased or sold has arrived at the vault?
Buyers and sellers can track shipping as they normally do for other purchases on eBay. You will get a notification when the item has shipped from the seller, and a second notification when it has arrived at the eBay vault. In between, you will see when it has arrived at our Authenticity Guarantee partner’s facility and passed inspection.
Can I store my card in the vault if I am located outside the United States?
No, the vault is currently only available in the United States.
Withdrawal
How do I take my items out of the vault?
Go to My eBay > The eBay vault to see the cards you have in the vault. You can withdraw a card from the vault for a fee, subject to restrictions. The shipping address must be located in the United States and cannot be a P.O. Box. U.S. territory locations (incl. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and armed forced postal locations are currently not covered.
How does eBay package and ship cards that are sold or withdrawn from the vault?
Our dedicated team meticulously packages the cards in custom protective packaging and provides tracking information.
