  That smell is the plastic handles offgassing and is very noticeable if they have been in a confined space and I believe that I shipped them in a zip lock bag. I have a set that is over 30 years old that I keep in a small toolbox and they do the same. I have some Craftsmen screwdrivers also do that. A search on the Internet will provide several ways to treat that.
