Pure Vintage '64 Telecaster Pickup Set
3 of 3 found this helpful To my ear these pickups have a smooth sound without nasty peaks on the bridge side. The neck is smooth as well with the mellowness it should have in that position. However they retain the "Buck Owens Twang" when needed.
To get the best sound be sure you have both volume & tone pots at 250K and the tone capacitor at .05uF. Also if the guitar has a treble bleed or grease bucket tone circuit, remove it. After all these are supposed to be "vintage". Also twist the pickup wires lightly to reduce hum pickup and before soldering the wires in the circuit cut off the bare ends and push the insulation back. When they stripped the wires at the factory they nicked the wire and it broke off as I installed it on both sets I used.
Lastly these pickups are getting harder to find these days.
