Picnic (DVD, 2000, Multiple Languages, Restored) William Holden Kim Novak

An American classic
Based on the William Inge play, "Picnic" is an American classic. Dreamboat William Holden jumps off a freight train on Labor Day and finds himself in a small, sleepy Kansas town. As the story unfolds, we see how the Holden character Hal Carter shakes up the lives of the other main characters. Carter is thus a catalyst. Holden is excellent in the role. So is Rosalind Russell. A fine performance by character actress Verna Felton as neighbor Mrs. Potts. Many moving scenes and lovely romantic dance between Holden and Novak.

This is a terrific bio of Sinatra from childhood to 60.
2 of 2 found this helpful I had seen this made-for-TV movie before, and I was waiting for the DVD to become available. It depicts the life of Sinatra from his childhood in Hoboken to the age of 60. It is not only a bio of Frank, however, but also a history lesson that includes the Depression, show business, the Kennedys, politics, the mafia, Hollywood, the music business, WWII, and the bobby soxers who lined up at the theatre to see Sinatra. It has great back stage scenes of Frank with "the boys" including band leaders Harry James and Tommy Dorsey and much about his scandals with women and the right wing press. Tina Sinatra collaborated with the screen writer/producer, and the result is excellent. Frank's beautiful songs are sung throughout, and they parallel the story. Phillip Casnoff, who plays Sinatra, is a dead ringer for him. Casnoff also captured Sinatra's diction, swagger, and demeanor. A great and much underrated litte gem.

Good movie especially for wine connoisseurs
0 of 1 found this helpful Good movie that takes the viewer from the California wine country to the vineyards of France. The actor who plays the French wine connoisseur ie excellent. Nice to hear French spoken slowly enough for me to understand. Also lovely scenery.
