Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 25 mm F/1.8 for Olympus - Black for Micro Four Thirds
    Sep 15, 2017
    Lightweight and great all-round lens
Prior to buying the lens I already owned two kit lenses (the 14-42mm zoom lens and 40-150mm zoom lens) as well as the 45mm f1.8 prime. I really enjoyed the performance of the 45mm and hoped that the 25mm could become my 'default' lens that could deliver the same sharpness as the 45mm but with a larger field of view. To my joy it really does. Build quality is not the best. The lens hood is prone to scratching and doesn't satisfyingly click like with the pro range of Olympus lenses. The lens itself is pretty lightweight and whilst not a convincing metallic feel, it doesn't feel flimsy. However, considering the price (especially if you get a good second hand deal) the build quality is quite satisfactory and not nearly as bad as some reviewers make it out to be. The performance of the lens is impressive. Whilst I don't think it is quite as sharp as the 45mm f1.8, this lens does perform very well; see sample pictures to see for yourself. Value for money. I got the lens for £230 which I believe to be money well spent. For me, the lens is a fantastic lens that sits very well between the kit kind of lenses and the pro range. It is a very convenient and lightweight lens that performs very well in all lighting conditions especially with the aperture opening up to 1.8 for low light and the lens hood to help in very bright conditions.
