Crusty turbo blanket

I put this turbo blanket on my car less than 2 thousand miles ago. I had to remove it for turbo maintenance. The inside of the shield was burned and broken into little flakes, with the insulation showing.I even used latex gloves during the installation. The ones supplied broke when I tried to put them on, so I used my own. The whole shield was hard and crusty. Fearful of it starting a fire I threw it in the garbage. Don't use this shield, it doesn't last any time at all.
