Great for occasional light-duty soldering when you don't have an AC outlet available
I live in an apartment complex, so I do not have direct access to a garage with household AC electrical power. But, I often do custom projects for my car, and I like to solder my electrical connections. Therefore, I needed a way to be able to solder connections in my car without needing an AC electrical outlet nearby. So, I ordered this battery operated soldering iron, and it works well.
This looks very similar to one that I bought at Radio Shack several years ago, and that unit worked for a few years. Like the Radio Shack unit, this soldering iron appears to be of decent, though not exceptional quality. This unit appears to be fine for occasional light-duty work, but I would not expect to use it as your main soldering iron if you do this type of work frequently or professionally.
It is amazing that this soldering iron can generate enough heat to melt solder with just 4 little AA batteries, but it does, and the batteries last a reasonable amount of time. Of course, there are limitations -- I have found that soldering two pieces of 18 gauge wire together is about the most you can expect, and even that's a bit difficult. Thicker wire just dissipates the heat too quickly and does not allow the solder to fully melt and flow into the connection. But for occasional light-duty work where you do not have access to an AC outlet, this unit is a fine value.

These are very bright white LED mini-pan...
These are very bright white LED mini-panels, and they look like they will work for the project I want to use them for. However, a couple of them were not fully working -- part of the LED's on the panel were not at full brightness. As long as they would not get any worse over time, they could still be used for other purposes, but for what I'm doing, I need their full brightness. Even with the two subpar panels, I still have extras, so it's fine and I'm not returning anything.
