New Author For Me
1 of 1 found this helpful This book was chosen by a small mystery readers' group I belong to in my small town. I had never read or heard of this author before. She has a nice style, and the Indian legend, lore, and outlook was nicely woven in, without beating the reader over the head with it. I'm part Shoshone and so was very interested in learning about the Wind River reservation, the northern part of which is Shoshone, the southern Arapaho. The Arapaho part is featured in this story. The background of oil wells and royalties on the res was eye opening, as was the mystery itself. Overall, a good read by an author I'll search out again.

The characters live.
Great book. Well written. Loved all the parts about life on a lighthouse island. Characters are vivid.

Good example of a police procedural
At first, the cop talk put me off. Soon I was into the rhythm of the story and I could understand what was meant. I'm enjoying this book immensely. Good writing, good plotting, good look at police procedures.
