Gripping Beast plastic miniatures are far more durable than Victrix, and also easier to paint!

Well sculpted and nicely detailed metal miniatures that are sized equivalent to Gripping Beast plastic figures that make up the bulk of my wargame collection. One flaw -- one or the four spears was broken, and all are very thin and easily bent in use.

Best Plastic Miniatures for Ancient Greek and Roman Wars
This kit allows you to build dozens of 28mm plastic miniatures representing infantry from the Roman Republic armed in mail (known as Hastati). It also has unarmored light troops (Velites), and some command figures. These are among the best Victrix kits because you have so many options for interchangeable heads, arms, and weapons. Poses are somewhat limited, but give you enough variation to offer a great tabletop image of Punic-War era troops. Unlike some of their other kits, the Republican Romans are issued with fairly thick javelins (pila). Many of the other ancient kits have really thin plastic spears that snap off very easily.
Combined with the Victrix kits for other elements of Republican Roman armies, you can put almost all of the troops you'll need on the table for wargaming. The only missing element are artillery figures, who used such weapons as the ballista both in siege warfare and open field combat.
