Fluance Reference High Fidelity Vinyl Turntable Record Player Ortofon Cartridge
    Apr 27, 2020
    Outstanding Fluance RT-85 Turntable!
The Fluance RT-85 is one of those turntables that, with a bigger, better, known name, would have cost me twice or even 3 times as much. It comes with an Ortofon 2M blue cartridge (that alone would set you back $260/$280) and I bought mine in piano black. The turntable has a great suspension system, excellent tone arm layout, which includes; anti-skate, stylus pressure adjustment, and a pre-mounted Ortofon to a removable head shell. I’m an ‘old school’ audiophile and the majority of my system is analog. I use a tube phono-preamp, which I prefer. This turntable does not come with a preamp built-in so unless you have a moving magnet phono preamp built into your integrated amplifier or receiver, you will need a phono preamp for your system (tube or otherwise). My “centerpiece”, if you will, is McIntosh MC 2105 power amp. I also have an ADC sound shaper 3, which is pre-amplified, three reel-to-reel tape decks, and my speaker systems comprised mostly of Klipsch. The weakest link in my system was my old, 40-year-old, turntable. I vacillated between buying a well-kept mid-80s to mid-90s turntable like the Yamaha PF 800, which I used to own back in 1990. There were also several nice, used, Thorens models out there but in the end, I went with a brand-new Fluance RT-85. As I mentioned earlier, a new Ortofon 2M blue cartridge is expensive and if I bought a used table (somewhere between $400 and $600), after I did the math, I would’ve spent twice as much on a used table as I spent for this Fluance RT-85. The RT 85 comes with an acrylic platter, which doesn’t need a platter mat, bubble level, dust cover and hinges, (the dust cover is designed to be easily removable when playing LPs), and a very good 3-foot, acoustic suspension/isolation system. Though I’m very familiar with the set up procedure of turntables, I followed the manual that came with it and went to the Fluance website to watch their turntable set up video. I recommend this to anyone because it makes for a good refresher course. Fluance has been in business 20 years and makes a number of audio products that appear to be pretty good. If the rest of their products are anywhere as good as the RT 85 turntable then I think they’ll be in business for a long time to come. I strongly recommend this turntable because based on the research I did for turntables that lasted about 3 weeks, the Fluance RT-85 is equivalent to any new, $1200 turntable that may have a bigger name. It is truly one of the best buys I’ve had in a long time. Rich

Wacom Texture Sheet Large - Standard KSO-B348, ACK-122-312-ZX for Intuos Pro
    May 21, 2023
A MUST HAVE for art and graphic work!
It's really astounding how much of a difference there was in the feel of the pen when drawing and painting! The "Standard" sheet is the one I selected and it does very much resemble the feel of an artist's pressed paper. Not only did it make a huge difference in how the pen felt against the drawing surface, the sheet offers a great level of protection to the tablet's native drawing surface. Applying the sheet to the tablet was really quite easy. In fact, I have protective sheets on all my touch-screen devices. The Wacom Standard sheet was one of the easiest to apply. Of course, it's important, even CRITICAL, that you properly prepare the surface. I have the Large Wacom Intuos Pro tablet and I first cleaned the surface with a little rubbing alcohol sprayed onto a microfiber cloth. Then I used a "Universal Dust Cleaning Gel to lift the tiniest particles off the surfaces. The backing on the Wacom sheet is pre-cut in such a way that allows you to align & place it precisely so the buttons and touch disc are clear. In addition, I was able to lift the sheet off of the tablet's drawing surface when I saw that it wasn't quite perfectly aligned. It took me about 3 try's before I finally got it right. This is because of the large surface on Intuos Pro PKH 860. If I was working with a smaller surface, it would have been easier but my point here is that even if you don't get it right on the first try, you can lift it up and re-align it. In my years of experience with Wacom tablets, I always found it best to apply a protective sheet on the tablet's drawing surface. However, it's also important to go with the Wacom brand and not a generic version. The Wacom sheets are specifically designed to give maximum response to the Wacom pen and I don't have to press down harder to get the pen to work. The cheaper generic versions may claim that they're the same, but only Wacom can guarantee the tablet and pen will work exactly as they should. It doesn't make sense to spend $450 on a tablet and then place a generic, discount-brand sheet on the surface anymore than it would to spend thousands on a camera lens and then cover the glass with a discount-brand filter. I strongly recommend the Wacom texture sheet! It's worth the money by offering a very good, natural feel when drawing and protects the drawing surface as well! Rich

    TOP DRAWER
I already own the Cobra XRS-9RG, (their top of the line), and this one, (XRS-9745), is just as reliable but does not have the red light cameras indictor. It's easy to install and gives several different options to mount in your vehicle. It has a full 360 degree monitoring capability, (make sure you have a clear view to the rear window, follow directions), and is easy to set up the GPS compass.
