Perfect for Emergencies
I bought these strictly as backup matches for severe emergencies. Of course I tested them and I am very pleased with them. I put 75 into my bug-out bag right away. Excellent waterproof matches.

Good values, but needs improvement
The quality is right for the price, but the red handles constantly stain your hands just from sweat. I have rubbed them down with a cloth over and over to no avail. Screwdriver is too small to be of most practical use, was probably intended for modern electronic devices with small screws and might tighten some eyeglass screws. If the handles were changed I would give them 4 out of 5 easy. I will most likely try to change the handle scales myself and this should improve the knife considerably.

Best All-Around Outdoor Knife for the Price and Quality
3 of 3 found this helpful Can you trust your life to this knife in a realistic survival situation? My answer is YES. And I don;t say that lightly. I am very particular about my outdoor gear and I only by the best, ever. I am deeply impressed with ESSE knives, they can take the punishment, and they perform 100% as advertised. Watch any You Tube video from private reviewers and time after time you will hear nothing but praise. This knife is also worth the investment of a custom sheath, even though that is rather pricey, it is just that good. Esse-5 is a bit heavy compared to most camp knives, but has a good feel in the hand; although chopping with it requires one to adjust the grip towards the bottom of the handle. LIfetime Warranty, says it all right there. The only thing I found useless for myself is the recess in the handle meant to be used for a bow drill. I drilled the hole out to 9/16" and inserted the best small size compass I could get as a modification, but still no complaints on my end. For just normal camping you could not do better. Carbon blade hold an edge for a long time, and the black coating doe not wear off easily as with most teflon coated blades. Cut, chop/baton, bushcraft of all sorts. You will need to keep a light coating of oil on it after you start using it, but other than that 100% best you can get.
