a gem in the rough...and it requires some effort to polish it up
5 of 5 found this helpful This is a great value, a gem in the rough...and it requires some effort to polish it up. First, it is important to recognize that this kind of machine represents high technology...from the 1800s. There are no precision bearings, no precision motors, or precision anything. It is a great big piece of cast iron with steel rods, cams and followers with no electronics. As illustrated, the fit and finish are not great, lots of hammer marks and burrs on screws, but it is not sloppy... and that is the key. This machine is precise where it needs to be precise, at the action of the needle, and in the interaction of the needle and the hook. It sews well and is easy to adjust. It is smooth in action and everything is easy to access. I would heartily suggest taking the time to re-oil and run-in the machine when receiving it. One final note, this machine is commonly compared to the Sailrite machines which retail for around $1000. This is not a Sailrite, but it is a third of the price and that makes up for a lot of fit and finish.

Great tool, which we had gotten one sooner.
Outstanding product, no delay in stapling, fits your hand, well balanced, has enough power to drive into old yellow pine. This replaced a Porter stapler that just barely did the job, you pulled the trigger and had to wait with nine times out of ten it would jam or fail to fire. The Milwaukee has not jammed once in probably the one thousand staples we have run through it at this point. It also has not failed to fire, although it has not shot once in a while when we have not pressed hard enough to beat the safety on the stapler, just as it was designed to do. The only other thing is that it has a power switch that you have to remember to press, where the old stapler assumed that if you put the battery in, you were ready to go, so we do tend to forget every once in a while and can't understand why it would not staple, only to remember the switch.
Overall this is a great tool and we are really glad we got it.
