WKRP in Cincinnati Complete Series seasons 1-4 (DVD 13-disc box set collection)

Beware the cheap 13-disc set, they are likely to be bootlegs and poorly made
The cheap 13-disc set is a bootleg set with single-layer discs which often have playback issues. The 12-disc set for a little more money is likely to be the real thing, but you want a guarantee of dual-layer discs which have copy protection and region-1 encoding, though even the boots I ended up with have a Region 1 logo on the back, but the discs aren't protected at all. The bootlegs can have packaging issues like you see in the picture where the cast photo and back-cover copy is wrapped badly on the cardboard, and comparing the bootleg box to the real thing, the bootleg's colors (on the left) are slightly off, and the box has more of a matte finish than the real one on the right, which has the cardboard-shine finish. Buy direct from Shout factory if you can, or an authorized reseller.

Excellent transfer of a great film
'The Thing' is one of my favorite films and I've seen it about thirty times or more, on VHS, DVD, television and now blu-ray. This is an excellent transfer, very clean and crisp picture and great sound. I did not notice any flaws in the copy, no dirt or film damage and almost no grain whatsoever; probably the best blu-ray transfer I've seen of anything shot on film, especially considering it is nearly 30 years old and looks better than transfers of stuff like 'Apollo 13' from '96. It is so clear that you can see a couple of shots where there was a drop of water on the camera lens, but I don't consider that a problem with the transfer. As other reviewers have noted, this disc contains the special features from the Collector's Edition dvd, but they seem to be available as Picture-in-picture only, which is a bit disappointing because the documentaries are worth watching full-screen by themselves so you can see the special effects shots, especially the alternate takes of some scenes like the final monster, which originally was a creature which looked mostly like Blair. In the film, I had never noticed before watching the blu-ray that the last monster is a half-Blair creature with a giant mouth coming out the side of his head. Also I hadn't previously noticed that Dr. Copper has a nose-ring, which makes no sense whatsoever to me. This blu-ray makes it clear that the film has held up very well over time and isn't nearly as dated as other stuff from the early '80s-- it was groundbreaking when it came out and is still a very suspenseful and extremely gory film, really the best of both worlds for those who enjoy really scary monsters with a good story behind them.

Samsung BD-F5700 Wi-Fi Blu-Ray Player ~ With remote

Compact, easy to use and good for usb or wi-fi video
My sole criticism is that it doesn't have Amazon video, but that is negligible because this is a great player. Small, mostly very quiet, good remote, great picture and sound, and the console's top-mounted touch-sensitive control pad is very convenient though hard to see without direct light. Streaming and usb video work great and wide array of compatible files.
