Canon Powershot S3 IS, 6 MP digital camera with12x zoom
5 of 5 found this helpful I bought this camera specifically because it had a 12X optical zoom lens and image stabilization (IS). Those two items work as I had hoped. The camera takes very good photos. It also takes movies. It will accept memory cards up to 2GB, so movies up to 45 minutes are possible. The few I have taken so far are quite good. Be aware that the Canon comes with only 16MB of memory, so expect to pay anywhere from $20 to $80 for more memory. Downloading photos or movies is quite simple. It can be done with or without the software provided. When the camera is attached to the computer (via a single cord) it is instantly recognized as another hard drive, so you can copy and past photos to any folder in your computer. My previous camera was an Olympus C4000. I find that this Canon is considerably easier to manage when doing things other than just point and shoot. To take a movie with the C4000 you had to go into the menu and do some selecting, with the Canon you just push one button. The Canon has a flash that's easily manually selected, so you don't have accidental flashes when you don't want them (in a church for instance). The canon comes with a neck strap, which is a necessity seeing I dropped my very first digital camera and that was the end of it, because it wasn't economical to have it repaired. The Canon uses four AA batteries, which, of course, can be found anywhere. However, by far the most convenient setup is to buy a charger and eight rechargeable nickel-metal-hydride (Ni-MH) batteries, four for the camera and four in the charger. Just switch them when necessary. I so far have found only two things that I don't like about the Canon. One is that it isn't convenient to hold. Your thumb automatically lands right where there are some buttons, so you always have to look to find a place to put your thumb. The second thing is that the zoom goes in and out too fast. You have to very delicately touch the lever to zoom to the point you want. There should perhaps be a fast and slow zoom. I've had the camera around two months now and plan to keep it.

This WiFi extender doesn't appear to help.
