Cider House Rules
Having read the novel, I was looking forward to the screen adaptation. Both were quite excellent. I was glad to see Michael Caine get the Best Supporting Actor Oscar and John Irving get one for the Best Adapted Screenplay. However, I was a little disappointed that Rachel Portman did not get the Oscar for Best Film Score. Her haunting themes throughout the movie only serves to enhance the experience and enjoyment of the picture.
THIS was an excellent novel and an equally excellent motion picture, which both dealt with controversial subjects with compassion, truth and dignity.
I would certainly recommend this motion picture to anyone and everyone who appreciates the work of John Irving (and even to those who don't).

The Cider House Rules soundtrack
You may recognize the theme from the PURE MICHIGAN ads that appear on TV. A pleasant, delightful soundtrack that only adds to the enhancement of the pleasant, delightful movie.
Good, original soundtracks are getting rarer these days. I highly recommend this one to anyone who enjoys the wonderful experience that a well-scored soundtrack brings to a motion picture.
Five stars out of 5!!!
