Better than teeth for squeezing on shot
2 of 2 found this helpful These pliers are made from two pieces of cast metal, hinged at one end and kept apart with a steel spring. The stotz/stylz/styx are held in the jaws of the applicator and squeezed on to the line by pressing the lever.
To remove stotz you put them in the groove near the front of the jaws and line up the split in the shot with the blade opposite to the groove. A squeeze of the lever will pry apart the stotz.
They work much better than the cheaper shot pliers made from stamped out bits of yellow plated steel. Also much better than biting the shot on with your teeth.
The only reason I gave four stars rather than five is because the little blade which opens the stotz was not sharp enough. 30 seconds work with a nail file soon fixed it.

Substitute for acrylic pouring medium
I have been experimenting with acrylic paint pouring to create abstract art. Typically, you would use a proprietary pouring medium to mix with the paint. Pouring medium is, however, quite expensive in the UK. Several artists on YouTube recommended Floetrol as a substitute. I bought a 1 litre bottle to try out. If you do a Google search there are plenty of mixing recipes available. So far, the results are pretty good.
I can't comment on how useful the product would be for the manufacturer's advertised purpose.

High quality for those who want the best
This landing net handle is the best I have ever used. It is constructed mostly from carbon fibre with brass used for the end fitting. The twistlock function works well with only a half-turn needed to lock. The handle end is painted with a rough texture coating to prevent slippage in wet hands.
This handle replaces two previous types; one (Maver) broke when I accidentally trod on it because the tube was so thin walled - the other (Shakespeare) broke when the glue holding the aluminium screw end fitting gave way. The Drennan handle is made from thicker walled, lower diameter tube and seems very strong. The Drennan end fitting is brass and is pinned as well as glued in place.
The whole thing reeks of quality and is a joy to use.
