I would not call this model 'heavy duty'
I bought this product because I had the opportunity to try out an older model, which worked fantastic. The Reed's Rocket Nut Cracker has a great design (works great on Hickory nuts)!
BUT, this model must be a cheaper model than the previous one I tried. The first day I used this device, the rim of the stable side of the nutcracker started to chip away so that bits of metal were mixed in with the nut shells. And each time I use it, it seems that another piece of the rim chips off. I'm hoping that there will be no damage beyond the thin rim. So far, it is still functional. But it seems very strange for metal to break and chip like this. The quality of metal in this model must be very poor.
