Cork has defects

After painstakingly trimming the cork to a snug fit into the bore of the petrol gas valve, the valve leaked gasoline. Removed the plunger from the valve and soaked plunger in gasoline until next day. Reinstalled the plunger. Still dripped gas at the pull grip. The cork had natural depressions at the surface which allowed for leaking. .
