Brighter, more open than the SM57
This was designed as Audix's answer to the venerable SM57. It has a similar EQ curve to the 57, but extends a little farther into the high frequencies which gives a brighter, more open sound. I find the 57 a bit dark for my taste so I prefer the i5, particularly on my guitar amp.

Very transparent, no tone suck
To my ear this is a perfect unit, compressing the dynamics without in any way altering the tone. The controls are robust and intuitive.
I have not done any A/B testing vs other units in a similar price range; I just upgraded from my old MXR Dyna Comp and could not be happier. I should have spend the extra $$ years ago.

A better string tree
Compared to the standard metal string tree, the reduced friction from this material provides a noticeable improvement to pitch stability. I won't use anything else on my guitars.
