Just the thing to revive an old laser printer
The HP Laserjet 6p is a great printer. Inexpensive to operate and super reliable. However, it connects to a computer via a parallel printer port and new computers don't have those. Other options are a USB/parallel adapter cable which proved unreliable on my Mac, or a new parallel network print server I bought from D-Link that I couldn't make work with an x-finity cable network.
The HP 300x arrived as promised, certainly used but it powered up, reset and connected immediately to my printer and network. Mac found the printer and did the set up almost without intervention. Tip: OSX selects the post script drivers by default. I've never been able to make these work. If you have the same problem use the "generic PCL" drivers; they always work. The other computers on the network, Windows and another Mac connected easily too. Good solution. I should be able to use this old printer for another 20 years.
